Remarks :

After completion of ISC exams, I started searching for government colleges mainly and even applied in some such as Bethune, Gokhale, Asutosh college, Surendranath college, and more. I kept waiting for my name on the selection lists and also kept searching for some other courses I would be interested in. I came across Brainware University Barasat and got to know about the courses they have in the allied health science department. That's when I decided to go for B.Sc in Medical Laboratory Technology as it was a profession-based course and would help me to work in the healthcare sector. I had a senior who studied in this university and he gave me a student counselor's number. I contacted her for all the details and went to the campus for further admission process. I was asked to take an aptitude test of 30 minutes on the college campus only. Next, the admission process was smooth and efficient. They have several scholarships for students. I got Rs.20,000 off for my % in the 12th boards exam.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose this course because it is a profession-based course that will help me to serve in the healthcare sector. I also had an inclination towards biology in my school days so this course seemed interesting. Our faculty members are highly educated, helpful, and cooperative. They give attention to almost every student so that anyone doesn't lack behind. There are about 6-7 teachers who are currently teaching us. We only got about 6 months of offline classes because, after the pandemic situation, we have been taking online classes. Still is it quite convenient for the theory classes Practical classes are lacking because we aren't getting laboratory exposure. Teachers are trying as much as possible to cover the practical parts by showing us subject-related videos. In each sem, we have: 2 internal exams which are MCQ based, surprise class tests , regular assignments, viva, and practical exam, semester exam. If you study regularly and follow up with classes, you can score pretty well.

Internships Opportunities :

From the first year of college, we were been taken for several hospital postings to observe and know-how laboratories' work. Our college labs are also equipped with good instruments so we gained the basic ideas of labs. But going to hospitals like Cancer Research Hospital and GNRC hospital helped a lot to understand our course even more. In my second year, I got an opportunity to work as a trainee in Narayana Multispeciality Hospital, Barasat. It was an unpaid internship and the duration was supposed to be six months. I worked in the microbiology department along with the covid sample collection area. But sadly due to lockdown, after one month of working there, our internship got on hold. The amount of practice I gained in this one month was more than I would've got in online classes. So it was a good experience. Hoping that this internship resumes soon and I get to learn more. Some of the other hospitals my classmates got internships in are Woodlands hospital, Ruby Hospital, etc.

Placement Experience :

The placement cell of our college is quite active and responsible. Students are eligible for campus placements in their final year mostly. For students' good performance in interviews during campus drive, we are provided with English communication and soft skill classes from the first semester only. In the Medical Laboratory Technology course, my own batch of 2019-22 is the first batch here so I have no further ideas of how our placements will be. We will be provided with 6 months internship at the end of the 6th semester and I am looking forward to this opportunity. I am planning to work just after my graduation. With my bachelor's degree, I can get jobs in labs or hospitals as a medical lab tech. After few years of work experience, I will most probably be pursuing my master's.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The total fees of this course in 2019 were 2lacs 10thousands. The payment criteria for each semester was like : 1st sem- 60,000 2nd sem- 51,000 3rd sem- 35,000 4th sem- 30,000 5th sem - I got a scholarship for scoring at least 75% so I only had to pay 10,000 Rs this semester. 6th sem- no fees. The exam fees were Rs.1200 each sem. There are several other scholarships and financial assistance for students of minority groups. I have not got any job with a stipend yet. We have been provided with several hospital postings and in my 4th semester, I also got an internship in Narayana Multispeciality Hospital. This was an unpaid internship but helped me to learn a lot.

Campus Life :

The university campus is beautiful and eco-friendly. It is a ragging-free campus. The classrooms are clean and spacious. Offline classes were conducted via projectors in classrooms. The library has vast availability of books that can be easily issued through the library portal. When online classes started, it was not possible for us to issue hardbacks so we were mailed the soft copies of our required course books. The library department hosts many seminars and webinars throughout the year. Many events are planned and executed here such as sports meet, freshers' and farewell programs, Saraswati puja, fit India movement, independence and republic days, annual fests, teachers' day, and many other significant days are celebrated. These events help in the communication between students of various streams and departments. Various student clubs are there such as tech club, literature club, etc.

Positive marks are obvious because of that much opportunity and that much of efforts. The college is good for optometry and pharmacy. other courses are good but not that much. You can come here and build up your future well. Bad remarks are not constant because I loved it but everyone's choice isn't the same.
