Vinoth Kumar's Review On Loyola-ICAM College Of Engineering And Technology - [LICET], Chennai

Entrance Preview :

With the 12th std board exam mark and cut-off I attend Anna university counselling. My cut-off mark is 182.25 and during the counselling I opted for this college because it is situated in the heart of the city and as a Jesuit institution it naturally will provide a good education and platform to build my career.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum was well balanced comprising equal amount of practical and theoretical sessions. In first year all the department's had common courses and then starting from second year we had subjects related to our core department and the practical sessions helped us in understanding the subjects clearly and gave a better idea of the course.

Internships Opportunities :

Our college helped us in getting internships and the internship is without any stipend. The internship gave us a good industrial exposure and we came to know what is expected from us when we come to work for an industry.

Placement Experience :

We had placement training 6 months before the placements and there we learned how to get a job and what is expected from us in placement. The placements were no that much great as only a limited number of companies came for placement and only a countable number of students got placed.

College Events :

During odd semesters we celebrate sports day and during even semesters we celebrate cultural day and yearly once we celebrate college day. Lot of students participate in cultural events and sports events nd the events are conducted throughout the semester and the finals are conducted on a particular day.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is very feasible and our college provides us with scholarship for students who excel in studies and for students she family income is leaving and their marks are high. The college dose not ask for donations or torture the students to pay money for unnecessary things. We have to pay exam fees for ever semester and we have to pay college fee on yearly basis.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The college offers scholarship for students who excel in studies and for students from sc/st cast and BC cast. If the monthly income of parents is less and the student has good marks they provide free education which I personally got.

Campus Life :

The campus life is one of the greatest things about my college. Being situated in the heart of Chennai city it is one of the greatest college to study. The gender ratio is 60% of male and 40% of female. During your third year of college you are given an opportunity to stand in elections for the college representative and based on votes the college representative us elected.

Alumni/Alumna :

Alumni meetings are conducted on yearly basis and they provide us a platform to meet our seniors and at that time we gain useful knowledge and ideas to improve our career.

Exam Structure :

The exam structure is planned in such a way that after completing two units we used to have a main exam and we wrote three exams and a model exam before attending a semester exam. This structure was very helpful and it helped us get used to attending semester exam confidently and help in learning to manage time while writing the exam.

Faculty :

The faculties in my college are extremely knowledgeable and they are very helpful and thought provoking. They are very experienced and abled people for guiding the students towards their growth.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements start in the 7th semester. Due to the recession, there is a lot of backlash when it comes to placements. It has been quite poor for the last few years. But it depends on how the student is prepared for the competitive world.

Placement Experience:

Placement is good for the CSE and IT departments. You can't expect placement if you belong to other departments, there is a placement for the other departments but very less. Campus placement starts in 3rd year itself. They have special classes for Aptitude skills and interview preparation GD and necessary preparations for job placement opportunities. 90% of students from CSE and IT get placed. The average package is 7.5 LPA you can expect a minimum of 3.5 LPA. If you are willing to go for higher studies you can contact the international relation office they have good relations with other universities abroad, they have students exchange programs, research scholarships etc if you are not planning to seat in placement. I plan for higher studies and research after my Btech.

Placement Experience:

The placements in my college is very good and top companies hire students across every branch with a good amount of package. At the end of 3rd year every student is elegible for the placements in college. About 20 to 25 companies visited for campus hiring and approximately 700 offers were given across the college from every branch. 60 percentage of students got placed in the campus hiring program. Highest package is 24 LPA and the aveyis 5LPA. My plan is to get into a good MNC company which is related to Aerospace technology.
