Remarks :
It is one of the best colleges for BSc Life science (my course) and hence was my option after Miranda. Since all of it was online and through the DU Portal, the admission process was smooth. However, the college staff itself never picks up a call or answers emails. If you want to resolve a query, approach DUSU or the various cells every political party organises.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose this course primarily because it offered me a broader range of subjects (botany, zoology and chemistry). The faculty is great and really passionate about their subjects. Life science doesn't gave it's own department so teacher's from the 3 honours courses teach us ensuring that they always impart extra information to us, students. The student-teacher ratio is not that great in theory but in lab classes, it is 1:23 if all students appear for it. The term exams were alongside every other college and relatively easy to pass if you had a basic knowledge of your syllabus
Internships Opportunities :
Hansraj Internship cell offers a variety of internships in the field of Analytics, IT, Marketing, Sales, HR, Research, Operations, Consulting, etc. Few of the companies and non-profit organizations that have recruited in the past years are Skillmate, CityFurnish, NDTV, OYO, Styledotme, Outlook, UrbanClap, Aducup, Internshala, Panasonic, Yes Foundation, Grofers, Tie, Maverick, United Airlines, Udall, Teach for India, The Indian Express, Boffin, Mirus, Fitpass, etc The stipend differs from organization to organization and internship to internship. Generally, proper guidelines are given alongside the assigned task. The internship cell is also very friendly and approachable in case of any problem faced.
Placement Experience :
A lot of students opt for post graduation over direct placements and the majority of placements are for those with management and commerce or computer science background. The campus placement cell has active members and regular recruiters include reputed names like McKinsey and Company and Boston Consulting Group. Students are eligible for placements in their final year second sem. The highest package last year was 31 LPA by Codenation. Minimum placements range in between 2-3 LPA. There is also an internship cell that organises an Annual Internship Fair prompting over 26k student entries from around the university. My plans would be to go post-grad after graduation.
Fees and Financial Aid :
It is very costly to study here since we have to pay 24,515 Rs. per year as compared to 14-16k in other colleges. In terms of scholarships, the college doesn't offer many scholarships if you aren't a certificate holder. It gets worse since a lot of students from out of Delhi must acquire lodging and meals on their own.
Campus Life :
Hansraj is known for its campus life and the ample extracurricular opportunities it offers to its students. It's annual fest CONFLUENCE and tech fest CYNOSURE usually take place in the month of March when it's fest season in DU. It's usually a four days event filled with competitions and stalls and the highlight- the star night. Hansraj has one of the most comprehensive libraries offering a wide range for exploration and of course as supplements to the students who want them. There's even a washroom in the library to ensure bodily functions are of no consequence to the dedicated. The staff is ever helpful and topics can be photocopied to provide a better and cheaper alternative to students. There's a central library, department libraries and even a book bank for the needy. Facilities like playgrounds, a shooting range, indoor sports complex, playrooms and even inter-departmental matches ensure life remains lively. So far there are over 40 active societies operating.
