Remarks :
I did not get admission in any other good college as my JEE Mains result was 85 percentile only. My 12th result was quite good in this aspect with PCM% as 96.33%. So I decided to go for Thapar as it allowed admissions through 12th PCM% and was the best college I was getting. Thapar has NIRF ranking 25 and good placement records which made me choose Thapar as my college for Under Graduation studies. The thing I like most about the college is that it's huge and it's infrastructure is very good with all the advanced technologies equipped. Also the culture in Thapar is pretty friendly and healthy competition is also there which is required for a person's overall growth. I have opted for Computer Engineering in Thapar as I've always been interested in computer science subject and have taken computer in my 12th class too. So, I had a fair idea and quite an interest in this subject.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I think that the course curriculum is well designed as it gives insight to all subjects to a student of any course. Yes, industrial exposure is being provided by the faculty in all semesters. The faculty is very good and supportive with few of the best teachers in many subjects. Anuj sir is the best teacher for Maths for first year students. Vinay Arora sir is the best teacher for operating systems for second year students. There are many other faculty members as well who are very dedicated and experienced in their respective subjects.
Internships Opportunities :
No, I haven't opted for any internship yet.
Placement Experience :
Placement records are very good in Thapar especially in the computer science branch with almost 99.9% students getting placed in various companies. As for now, for the 2019-20 batch, there are 264 companies visiting and around 1000 placement offers yet. Reliance Industries Limited, Samsung, Wipro, Whirlpool, Zomato, Deloitte, IBM, Infosys, JP Morgan, Maruti Suzuki and Microsoft are some of our top recruiting companies. Alumni networking is quite strong in Thapar. The Entrepreneurship Development Cell in Thapar is quite well established and functions quite smoothly to foster entrepreneurship among the budding college students.
College Events :
Campus life is super awesome in Thapar as it's widely spread across many acres and the campus size is quite huge. There's a lane of restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, malls, etc. quite near to Thapar. Thapar has 55+ societies and every year new societies spring up giving every individual to be a part of some society and to grow with a community of like-minded individuals. At Thapar, we organize many cultural, technical and management festivals. Thapar Food Festival is one of the main food fests of North India and it has approximately 50+ sponsors with many big sponsors like Coca-cola and Doritos. It's an amazing food fest which is one of its kind. The biggest Cultural fest in Thapar is Saturnalia where amazing personalities like Ritviz, Zakir Khan, Gagan Arora, Shreya Mehta, etc. The biggest technical fest is organized by Orion in Thapar and there is tremendous amount of students participating in these. Some of the most insightful technical workshops and events are organized by Thapar ACM Student Chapter. Apart from this, Youth United organizes the best events for helping the underprivileged being a NGO. The participation in all the events is quite a lot as students are a lot and it's not wrong to say that Thapar is kind of over crowded.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I didn't get any scholarship during admission as scholarship was only available for students who got admission through JEE Mains and not through 12th PCM%. There were various types of scholarships for different JEE Mains percentile.
Campus Life :
The infrastructure of Thapar is quite amazing and will leave you awestruck the first time you see it. The sports facilities are also good as you can issue any sports equipments, play and return the equipments at your convenience. There are no wi-fi issues and the wi-fi is very strong like you can download a 3 hour movie in 2 minutes. So, net connectivity issues are not there. Our new library is pretty cool and huge. It has 3-4 floors divided by types and category of books as well as many enclosed discussion rooms are there in the library which can be used for group discussions. The library has all the resources like charging points, organized personal and community desk and chairs, computers that can be used by students for research, etc. Labs are fully equipped with all the latest technology and new, accurate instruments and equipments. Students can also use the lab resources for their individual projects as well.
Hostel Facilities :
Yes, I've opted for hostel and I've taken a 4 seater non-ac hostel for girls in the first year. The infrastructure of hostels are quite good and our gardens are the most amazing thing about our hostels. We have facilities of mess, night canteen and laundry in our hostels and it's quite a saviour. The mess food is really awesome and we have a lot of varieties in all meals. The hostel rooms are quite spacious and well designed. For my hostel i.e. 4 seater non-ac, Rs 27,500 was the fees per semester. The mess charges are paid separately which is Rs 16,000 per semester. Hostel facility is very easy to avail in Thapar as there are total 17 hostels in Thapar and hostels are allotted to each student accordingly.
