Bad ones might include the partiality, the lack of a proper strategy for completing the syllabus and all. The good things about are uncountable.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Okay, so we have 2 theory exams in a semester. The mid terms and the final semester exams. Both are of 100 marks papers. From the mid terms out of the total marks you acquired in a subject only 30% will be taken for calculation of semester marks, and from semester exam out of total per subject 70% of marks will be considered. So adding the two, i.e, 30%+70%, will be your semester theory marks. Apart from that if you have attendance more than 95% you get 5 marks extra. There is only one practical per semester for each of the 4 major departments.
Placement Experience :
I'm still in 1st year so didn't really think much about placements now. But what I see from seniors and all they got really good placements from the college itself. The college calls for interviews for jobs. For internship there is IRT in 2nd year where there is also interviews from the college and students can choose from a variety of hotels looking for interns and trainees.
College Events :
All the major events like independent day, republic day, Diwali, Pre Christmas, Regional events, Holi, Fresher's, Prom, etc. There are usually different dress codes usually traditional or formal for these events. There are different types of delicacies that are created here on special occasions. These events are usually fun.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Compared to other hotel management institutes it is cheaper. If you go to any private institutes like IIHM, AIHM, IHM-A, etc. There they charge you a heftier amount. This is not at all cheap but compared to other it is cheap. It also varies among different IHM's, like in IHM MUMBAI, PUSA, KOLKATA, BANGALORE the fee structure is higher than IHM GOA.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
No I did not avail any scholarship for myself. Niether did I avail any scholarship. But there are a few scholarship programs available for the students here in this college.
Campus Life :
The gender ratio is pretty bad. With number of girls which are less and more number of boys. Sad right :P.Well about diversity. Yes it is diverse and there are people from all the corners of the country. And that's the best thing about ihm Goa. People from all the 4 direction in the map comes here. There are competions for cooking, bar, bakery, etc held on a regular basis.
Hostel Facilities :
Yes. Being a hostelites I would say hostel is better than PG. There are so many advantages like you don't have to cook your food, you don't have to clean toilets, you have more security and even more time to study, you stay amongst a lot of people and thus will never feel bored, there is unity, there are sometimes contentions too but then again you become good with that person eventually. Hostel life is the best. The seniors are also really good and helpful. But don't choose hostel is you are a chainsmoker or alcoholic, believe me it's not the place for you then.
Alumni/Alumna :
There have been students of the college who are doing really well in life. There have been a few notable ones too. There are some alumni which are teaching in the college now.
Admission :
I chose IHM GOA because first of all it's IHM which is alone enough to classify it as a good college. Then it's Goa, so first thing for a hospitalily enthusiast is exposure which Goa has in abundance. So, I didn't think twice before choosing IHM Goa. On top of that I did a preliminary screening of the college online and found that it is a wonderful college. Love it. The faculties though script at times are really caring and helpful. We also have anti ragging policy, so not a factor. So if you can get into this after the nchmct jee exam do choose it. You will have an experience of a lifetime man. Cheers.
Faculty :
There are many lecturers divided among seniority and experience.For cookery, f&b, front office, accomodations there are many lecturers which are different for the 1st 2nd and 3rd years. They are really helpful and at times friendly. There is partiality prevalent in this college upto some extent, but if you are able to make your position you will be a cherry on a cake. Be sure to be always respectful.
