Remarks :
The college life is the best part of NIT Durgapur. The freedom provided to the students is amazing and every student in the colleges cherishes that. The infrastructure is under renovation and is maintained properly by the administration. My only problem is with the alumni network and the bias of the faculty towards the students.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The college is one of the top colleges in the India in terms of Research. We have second highest patents among all the NITs. Our college is the only college in the country to score a perfect 100 for a Manual Robot in Robocon India. The curriculum itself is outdated and under update. I am personally not satisfied with the curriculum but the administration is making constant efforts to make it up to date.
Placement Experience :
The placements have been great so far. The college provides internship as well as full time opportunities. In this placement season, various reputed companies like Adobe, Amazon, Wells Fargo, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, JPMC, Cloudera, CDOT have visitied the colleges offering stipends of around 1 lakh rupees.
College Events :
Aarohan is our techo management festival, which is organised in the month of February. NitYamini, the cultural festival, ie the second largest cultural festival in East India and is organised in the month of March.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The college fee is 70000 per semester for students having family income over 5 lakhs. For students with family income between 1 to 5 lakh, the fee is around 30000 and for students with family income below 1 lakh, the fee is around 8000
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The college has associated with State Bank of India and Canara Bank to offer easy education loans to students. Also, the college provides OP Jindal Scholarship for underprivileged students, which provides a financial support of over 1 lakh every year to these students.
Campus Life :
The gender ratio is around 1:8. The college organizes regular workshops sponsored by the Indian Government where faculties from colleges all over India visit and give lectures on state of the art technology. We have various arts, dramatics, music, social and coding socities in our colleges. We have students from various religions, creed and countries sitting under the same roof and treated equally by the institution.
Alumni/Alumna :
The alumni network is excellent. But the college hardly puts any effort to extend and use the Alumni to take donations or call companies for placements. In short, the alumnis are very well off, but the effort put in by the college to get them involved is very limited.
Admission :
I appeared for JEE Mains in 2016 and scored 161 in the exam. I got 99.98 percentile in class 12 due to which my JEE Mains All India Rank was 7285. The cut off for Computer Science in NIT Durgapur was around 8000 and I always wanted to study Computer Science due to my interest in Programming. That's why I chose Computer Science in NIT Durgapur.
Faculty :
The attitude of the faculty towards the students is good. However there are several faculty who are biased towards the local Bengali Speaking students and I think being a National Institute it doesn't add to the pride of the college
