SUT ACADEMY OF MEDICAL SCIENCE, TRIVANDRUM

Remarks :

Positive- experienced and talented staff, excellent coaching and a picturesque site Negative- strict and money conscious, limited freedom for females and sometimes the amount of patients are less than desired.

Course Curriculum Overview :

MBBS course is definitely hard but it is worth the effort as you become a respected Doctor after 5.5 years. The course has 4 years of learning and 1 year of compulsory housemanship. Each year the exam consists of both theory and practical exams, both of which we need to pass. The first year subjects are anatomy, physiology and biochemistry. The second year subjects are pathology, microbiology, pharmacology and forensic medicine. The third year subjects are ENT,Ophthalmology and community medicine. The final year subjects are General Medicine, gynaecology and obstetrics, paediatrics and surgery.

Placement Experience :

As everyone leaving the college is well trained in the art of medicine, everyone gets a job although unlike in engineering colleges this is not a direct placement method. The college provides a compulsory internship of 1 year that all students must participate at the end of the course after which only does he/she gets her certificate. The internship year is meant to be the year where we learn and apply most of what we have learnt throughout the course. Although exhausting, the experience is a cherishable one. The current stipend is a moderate amount of 15,000 a month.

College Events :

*Republic day- flag hoisting and cultural programs *Valentine's day- competition * Arts fest- competition * Sports fest-competitions *Environment day- cultural and awareness programmes *Independence day- cultural programs *Onam- competition and cultural programs *College tour *Intermedicos tournament *Diabetes day *NSS day *College day *Aids day *Christmas celebration

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Each year the fee structure varies depending upon the decision of the government and the medical college association. However overall the fees are quite expensive. The amount rises each year and currently it is about 5 lakh per year.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The college provides special scholarship to students who are in the minority both socially and economically according to the Government scheme. Further, the colleges also helps the students to avail other scholarship like the prime minister's scholarship.

Campus Life :

The labs are all well maintained and staffed. They are both helpful and a bit strict. The labs are maintained in excellent condition. The college has a playground where football, cricket, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, throw Ball, chess and carroms can be played.

Hostel Facilities :

There are seperate hostel for men and women. The hostel provides good quality food. The toilet facilities are excellent and each room is allotted for 3 people. The rooms are large and each student is given his/her own bed, table and almirah. There are 2 fans in each room.

Alumni/Alumna :

Some seniors are now the teachers in this college while others visit it often. The seniors are very helpful to the students and provide support and confidence by providing tips and backstories about the course and college.

Admission :

After competing in the state entrance exams in 2016, I managed to secure a seat in my college by allotment process by the entrance exam commissioner. I submitted my documents including the 10th,12th and entrance results with original marklist. Along with fitness certificate and vaccination certificate, I officially joined the college.

Faculty :

They are helpful, experienced and immensely talented. Most of them are really good humans too. However they are a bit strict in money related matters. The clinical departments are always ready to attend any patients and the learning opportunities are satisfactory. The arts and sports section of the college is also quite good.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is too heavy and there is lot to learn . Since it is based on helping people I chose this course. And the curriculum is set in such away that we were trained to face health problems in real world in real time. The final year time duration can be increased since there are 6 subjects which are too hard. There will be 3 internal assessment in which total of no less 40 percent should be scored in both theory and practical only then you will be permitted to write the University Exams.

Our curriculum is mainly focussing on academics . There is also sports and arts including competition but they are not supporting the students. The question paper difficulty is of moderate type and can pass.

Course Curriculum Overview:

We were brought into the new CBME curriculum. Even the faculty finds it hard to comply with as it is a new system. There are a lot of small group discussions and self directed learning programmes that consider the teacher as just a facilitator and students are meant to learn with the guidance of the facilitator.

Course Curriculum Overview:

It is very esteemed profession and we have the lives of people in our hands. Curriculum very well prepares us for real world applications if we put effort from our side too. Faculties need to be more student friendly though.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Why MBBS because it has been my dream since of I was kid and I’m glad that I made it this far. Each batch in my college have 250 students and for every 25 students one faculty would be given as mentor, whom we can approach for any of queries. Apart from that practical and clinical postings are really fascinating. We would have year exams as to qualify each year, and a few internal exams every 2-3 months. And these exams I wouldn’t put it too tough that we have to give our 100% of time for only studies but nor too easy. If we put a moderate effort for studies we are soo good to go.
