All you need to know about Kalyani Government Engineering College

Remarks :

According to me and most of my peers, the infrastructure of the college needs to be improved. Also, as mentioned above, at present the college doesn't offer any internships. It is high time that this be changed.

Course Curriculum Overview :

KGEC follows a semester pattern of examinations. The course curriculum is rigorous and involves two internal tests per semester which precedes the actual semester examination. Practical examinations are to be taken once in a semester. If one fails to clear an examination, he/she has to take it next year inorder to pass in that subject.

Placement Experience :

As far as placement goes, the graph had taken a downward path in the recent years, but this year the placement has been wonderful. Companies like Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant, Ernest Young have joined the campus recruitment drive. Placements have been particularly good for branches like CSE, ECE and IT. No, the college does not provide any internships as such. If a student wants to do an internship then he/she has to do the arrangements all be himself/herself.

College Events :

Espektro- Espektro is the most awaited event of the college. It serves as an umbrella to the technology fest of the college, Techtix and the cultural fest, called Exotica. Techtix provides the students a platform to showcase their technical skills. Al Hambra- It involves the inter-departmental sports tournaments of the college. Teams from the six departments participate in games like cricket, football, table tennis, badminton and carrom. E-summit- It is the annual entrepreneurship summit hosted by KGEC's E-Cell. It is a concotion of a plethora of events which brings out the entrepreneur in you.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fees, unlike private engineering colleges, is very feasible. A student enrolled in the BTech course without any scholarship has to pay around INR 12000 a year. There are provisions for scholarships on a need basis.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

There is a provision for TFW in which one has to pay significantly less college fees. It is offered to students whose family income is less than a stipulated amount. This is the only scholarship that is offered by the college as such. There are many more merit-cum-means scholarships that are provided by various other institutions.

Campus Life :

There are plenty of opportunities to relax and showcase your singing, dancing, quizzing or sports skills. The college has different clubs for music, literature, dance, photography. There is even a robotics and a star-gazing society in the college.

Hostel Facilities :

No, I have not opted for hostel facilities. But I am frequent visitor to the hostels as most of my friends are boarders there. The rooms are spacious and the food is good too. There is a prevalent creative culture within the hostels.

Alumni/Alumna :

Multiple alumnis of our college are successfully placed in multi-national companies and many are pursuing higher studies at the IITs. They answer to the calls or texts if you approach them on LinkedIn or elsewhere.

Admission :

In order to get admitted to KGEC, one needs to take the West Bengal Joint Entrence Examination ( WBJEE) for regular entry to B.Tech courses, JELET for lateral entry to B.Tech, or GATE for admission to M.Tech courses.

Faculty :

In order to be eligible as a faculty of any government engineering college in West Bengal, one has to take an exam which is quite high standard. So the faculty of KGEC is undoubtedly good. They try and more often not succeed in explaining topics lucidly and in a simple manner.

Course Curriculum Overview:

B.Tech in CSE is future proof and a very good course for IT sector jobs and I was always excited working in these companies, that's why I choose the course. There are 10-12 faculties present in every department. Each faculty is M.Tech qualified and Drs. Their teaching quality is very good. 4 internal theory and 2 Lab exams happen each semester. The questions are standard, regular, and sincere students can easily pass.

College was good in terms of studies and many more. But now it fails in giving placement. Most of the students are still unemployed. Only 30% of the students are placed from college. Others have to find there own jobs.
