Remarks :
Overall Guru Nanak Institute of Technology is a very good college. If you choose your career in Computer Science or Information Technology, then it is the right place. Even if you don't have any past experience of this subject, your seniors and faculties will inspire you to do so.
Course Curriculum Overview :
There is a total of 8 semesters consisting of 5-6 theory papers and 3-4 lab papers. Each semester consists of 6 months. You need 75% attendance to give semester exams. If you have attendance less than 75%, you have to submit assignments to the respective faculties and in some cases (generally attendance <=60%) you have to pay fine + do all the assignments.
Placement Experience :
For the last few years, the placement record of Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering department has been gradually upgrading. On average, a student get 3.8 LPA according to me in placements. MNC's like Capgemini, ITC Infotech etc. do visit our campus for hiring students. As far as the internships are concerned, our college does provide some internship offers but it's very hard to get that chance and maintain accordingly with studies.
College Events :
Every year, the events start with Sampan - The Freshers Welcome, and then the new year begins with Tesseract - The technical fest of GNIT and Zyzzva - The cultural fest. Except from these, there are many departmental events are also held like Techinova etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The total fees for Bachelor of Technology is around 407000 (at the time of my admission - in 2017). It gets divided in 8 semesters. In the first semester, you have to pay around 85,000 (admission fees + first semester fees), then for the next 7 seven semesters, on average, you have to pay approximately 46000.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
You can opt for education loan, but I don't know if our college has any tie up with any banks to make it easy for the students to avail the loan and as far as the scholarship is concerned, I think it's not provided for the greenhorns, rather the highest DGPA scoring student gets the scholarship of 5,000 for further studies.
Campus Life :
Extracurricular activities are of different domains. If you want extracurricular activities from any technical domain, then contests like Smart India Hackathon, ACM ICPC etc. are there. These are not organized by the college, but if you're interested, the faculties/seniors are always there to help you out.
Alumni/Alumna :
Seniors are very helpful and supportive. Every year one alumni meet event is held at the campus. Some of the alumni are abroad and they are also in touch with the college. They are very helpful and inspiring for the current students and greenhorns.
Admission :
I secured 39160 rank in WBJEE and then after the 2nd round of counselling, I got admission into this college. After this I visited a counselling center and did all the paper works required. Then with a confirmation from there, I visited my college and did all the formalities and finally my admission procedure was completed.
Faculty :
All the faculties of my department are very knowledgeable and friendly in terms of teaching. In the first year of your B.Tech, you'll have to be a part of ASHU department (Applied Science and Humanities) and according to me, this is the toughest phase of my college life. Some unnecessary subjects are being taught (like chemistry and evs) although being a part of Computer Science and Engineering.
