Course Curriculum Overview :
Course curriculum is the same for all colleges affliated Under MGU. Our exams are also conducted by MGU. My opinion on the curriculum of Bsc Physics(which is the course i have taken up now in the college ) is that it's easy compared to other universities outside Kerela. Before college i was a Student of a CBSE school and i felt that the college course was much more comfortable that the school's. Speaking of Exam structure , There is 2 internal exams and other internal assessments which is in total for 20 marks and a semester exam every semester which is out of 80 marks making a total of 100. The results takes time as all the papers from all the colleges are collected and evaluated by the University. The results takes upto 8 months to be published.
Placement Experience :
Our college Does not provide any intership but you can take up and do projects and papers for yourself with the help of the faculty. There is placement cell working in the college which provides you with details about job interviews. For physics as i know no interviews has been conducted in the college. But for some courses like Cme and Mca there were many interviews in the college.
College Events :
All the Events of the College is Cordinated and conducted By the Union of the College which is an elected students representatives union. There are events like college day , union day , Film fests, onam celebration , Christmas celebration, Arts day, hostelers day, sports meet and may more events on all special occasions. For main events a popular person is invited as a guest.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Fees structure is the fees prescribed by the University , so college doesn't have much role in it. The fee structure is actually very reasonable as it is a government aided college education is near to free. For sc/st or reserved communities the fee is very low.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
There are some scholarships provided by the college itself in the the name of the founders its Manly for economically backward classes and also for differetly abilied students. For others there are many scholarship plans by the government itself.
Campus Life :
We have the best hockey team in the kerela. The sports Students are given free accommodation and food. And all sports items are well encouraged by the college. There are many extracurricular activities to enroll in college mainly Nss and Ncc. The labs of the college is not that up to the standard as it's an old college but all necessary equipments are provided.
Hostel Facilities :
I have not opted for College hostel. I have rented a house with 7 other fellow colleagues near the college itself. For girls College hostel is the worst as they provide bad food and the curfew is at 6pm.
Alumni/Alumna :
Yes, Many alumins of the College are now famous people like one being The movie director Lijo Jose pellisery and one being the movie actor Dileep. Many alumins from all over the world help in the renovation and improvement of the college infrastructure. They also help in the upbringing of the students organisations in the college which helps students to fight for their rights and freedom.
Admission :
I enrolled in the college through Mgu CAP(Mahatma Gandhi University Common Admission Process). There are many colleges affliated to MGU one of them being Union Christian College , Aluva. UCC(abbreviation for Union Christian College) is one of the best colleges affliated to MGU , So i had it on my top list. You can fill up MGU cap every year from MGUs website and you have a choice to select upto 40 colleges. Once you have entered all necessary details your index mark is calculated according to which you are able to calculate whether you could accure a seat in a college of your wish. Now i had moderate index mark so i first took admission in one of College where i was give admission at the first allotment and then changed it my admission to UCC when i got admission there. There are normally Four allotments in the first Phase. Then supplymentary alloments for the left over seats and then the final alloments for the few final seats. You apply and know all your current status through the website it self. Only when you have to take admission you have to visit the college and enroll yourself.
Faculty :
All Teachers of the college are well qualified, and takes their classes very seriously. Although some teachers are against student organisations in college and some being very adamant about concentrating in studies itself, students enjoy a great deal of freedom in this college. My department (physics department) is one of the most prestigious department in the college and also know for its good reputation outside the college too. All the teachers have pursued Doctorate in Physics and are well know people.
