Why is IIT BHU the worst IIT?

Calling IIT BHU, one of the oldest IITs, worst is outright defamation and its alumni won’t tolerate it. I suggest you research its Campus life and facilities, quality of education, hostel facilities, placements, and research culture. Only after proper research will you realize that the claim you made is false and the word worst does not sit with the legacy IIT BHU has. In fact, it has worked hard to earn the reputation and the IIT tag it has today.

  • IIT BHU average package is comparable to that of the top IIT, IIT Bombay
  • IIT BHU has the largest alumni network considering it’s a very old institute
  • It carries the culture of Kashi beautifully
  • IIT BHU is a tough competitor in inter IIT events
  • IIT BHU has high cutoffs to ensure the standard of education and crowd is maintained at par with top IITs.

Even after considering the above points will you say that IIT BHU is the worst IIT?

Why is IIT-BHU the worst IIT?

You can decide if IIT BHU is really the worst IIT after going through my answer. I have tried my best to state all fair points and stay unbiased as much as possible.

  • Generally, all IITs suffer from a shortage of faculties whereas IIT BHU has a sufficient number of experienced faculty members.
  • The professors are high quality and you cannot doubt the parity of teaching here. The recruitment style is similar in all IITs so the faculty pool is similarly skilled.
  • IIT BHU has student-run clubs that provide complete exposure to management and students learn to deal with serious situations and be responsible.
  • The course structure of IIT BHU is relatively flexible giving students freedom to explore their interests and not spend time just mugging concepts. Many IITs have very rigid curricula limiting the students' exposure.
  • IIT BHU no doubt is lacking in terms of infrastructure and facilities but for someone who focuses on the bigger picture, this might not seem to bug a factor to consider. Additionally, there have
  • IIT BHU has excellent sports facilities and you can find almost every game being played here.

IIT BHU is great in all aspects and its alumni are successfully working in big companies. This alone is enough to negate the point that IIT BHU is the worst IIT.

Should I study CSE at BITS Pilani or CSE at IIT BHU?

AB

When deciding between IIT BHU and BITS Pilani, it's important to consider both colleges from different perspectives. Both institutions have their own strengths, and making a decision between the two can be challenging. Here are some important things to consider about each institution:

IIT BHU:

It is considered one of the top IITs after the top five IITs in India. It has a vast infrastructure and lab facilities because of its affiliation with Banaras Hindu University (BHU). It has a long history of excellence in education and has been around for longer than some of the other IITs. It has some of the best faculties among all the IITs. Most importantly, getting an IIT tag from IIT BHU can help you in many ways throughout your life, such as impressing people and carrying it to foreign colleges and companies.

BITS Pilani:

When it comes to placement and package, BITS Pilani is considered superior to IIT BHU. Its placements are often higher than even the top IITs. The hostel facilities available at BITS Pilani are unmatched by any IIT. Even recruiters do not make a distinction between IITs and BITS Pilani when it comes to reputation.

Here are some more reasons why IIT BHU could be the right choice for you:

  • IIT BHU is part of the prestigious IIT league, which is considered the most prestigious group of engineering institutions in India.
  • Don't fall into the trap of people who might say that the IIT tag won't matter or that IITs are fake or the worst. The IIT tag can help you in many ways you might not have even thought of.
  • IIT BHU has a far better placement than BITS Pilani.
  • Being part of the IIT league means that you can explore yourself with other IITs by participating in inter-IIT tech, sports meets or other inter-IIT meets.
  • IIT has more brand value than BITS Pilani.
  • IITs charge fewer fees than BITS Pilani.
  • IITs have bigger and better alumni bases than BITS Pilani.
  • IITs are well-known and have a more international reputation than BITS Pilani.

Ultimately, the choice between IIT BHU and BITS Pilani will depend on your individual needs and goals. It is important to weigh the pros and cons of each institution and consider your future aspirations when making your decision.

Does everyone studying at IIT (BHU), Varanasi feel sad about living in an old city with very bad traffic, bad roads, no great cinema hall, no good place to hang out, and a lack of good looking girls?

No, I don't agree with you. My friend was a student at IIT BHU and still reminisces about her time spent in Varanasi. Although she is staying in New Delhi currently a part of Varanasi still stays with her she misses the pollution-free air of Varanasi and the scenic moments she spent by the river.

Her current life in Delhi is very urban and fast-paced and she misses the tranquility of Varanasi. So it is untrue that you will feel bad about staying in an old city with no good places to hang out. Every city offers a unique experience and so does IIT BHU. You need to come prepared for all this.

How are the hostels in IIT BHU?

OB
Oindrila Bose Posted On : June 15th, 2023
Studied at IIT BHU (2019)

Freshers are allotted these three hostels(the first two are for boys and the last one is for girls): Vishweshvarayya Hostel, S N Bose Hostel, and Gandhi Smriti Mahila Chhatravas.

My brother lived in IIT-BHU Hostel and got to experience all the good and bad of hostel life at IIT-BHU. According to him:

ROOMS

  • The rooms are very small and are shared by 2 to 3 people
  • On first entering, you will not like the rooms at all. The rooms are covered in spider webs everywhere and some of the old used belongings from the previous occupants
  • You will need to clean your room and get all the required items
  • A bed, table, and chair are provided by the hostel administration
  • Cupboards are in-built and you have to share them with your roommate
  • The rooms have hardly any space, but the lawns are big and the hostel corridors are long
  • There’s a sufficient number of washrooms on each floor. Each floor has water coolers.

OTHER FACILITIES: Common rooms, Canteens, Mess, TV Room, Badminton court, TT tables, and lawns. There’s also high-speed internet which can be connected through both, Wi-Fi and LAN

FOOD AND HOSTEL CANTEENS- The food is above average, better than other colleges and most of the other IITs.

Hostel canteens close between 2:30 A.M to 4:00 A.M. Students can still obtain food from within the campus at any time

HOSTEL TIMINGS- Apart from the first few months, there are no in-and-out hostel timings for boys. However, for girls, there is a strict time restriction, 10 PM.

HOSTEL STAFF AND ADMINISTRATION- The hostel staff and administration are friendly and supportive. You can also ask your Maharaja to make a dish that you wish to eat.

You will certainly face some challenges as you try to adjust to your new life. Living in and sharing small rooms with strangers will be difficult at first. You will have to learn to manage with very basic facilities, but as you make more and more friends at your hostel, you will come to enjoy every day that you spend there.

Also, some of these experiences are subjective, while others can also be different for a different academic batch. My brother completed his graduation in 2018.

Is IIT-BHU better than IIT Indore?

AD
Abhinav Dubey Posted On : February 15th, 2022
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2022)

Yes, IIT BHU is better than IIT Indore in terms of infrastructure, alumni base, research exposure.

  • At IIT BHU, old departments like Mechanical, etc. have old machines and lab equipment. But departments like CSE, Mathematics have new buildings, computers, etc.
  • IIT BHU also has the advantage of a larger alumni network.
  • It offers marginally better placement opportunities in core branches.
  • The research culture is quite active on campus, especially for different fields of CSE like Machine Learning, Computer Vision, etc.
  • The faculty base of IIT BHU is good, similar to any other old IITs.

  1. The course curriculum at IIT BHU works to equip students with skills as per the current industry demands
  2. IIT BHU has various clubs- Robotics Club, Aeronautics Club, and others that conduct sessions frequently for a hands-on experience of different innovative projects
  3. The faculty at BHU is very supportive. A tie between Amazon and BHU for sponsored labs on campus has allowed students to be better exposed to current technologies and innovations
  4. For students who are interested in core domains, there are plenty of companies that visit the campus for core placements, including PSUs
  5. IT students get great placement opportunities as all big MNCs and fastest-growing startups visit the campus for placements
  6. IIT BHU’s location makes it desirable. It is located in the spiritual city of Varanasi
  7. IIT BHU is a very old institution and of which its infrastructure needs plenty of improvement. Also, the hostels are very congested with small rooms

To conclude, IIT BHU is a very old and well-established institution that offers very good placement opportunities and has a good academic curriculum (excellent as per some, decent as per others). However, the infrastructure is very old and needs significant improvement.
