Questions Asked On GECT, Thrissur

Why do CUSAT and some private colleges in Kerala rank higher than the more difficult to get in colleges- like CET and GEC-Thrissur ?

It’s true that getting admission to CUSAT is easier than colleges like CET and GEC Thrissur. It has provisions for NRI seats and also conducts many spot admissions. The campus is not very disciplined and the increasing cutoffs have resulted in a huge intake recently. The quality of education has been compromised as a result. I think the reason it’s still highly ranked is that these rankings are flawed and manipulated. It’s better not to refer to these rankings while choosing a college.

Personally, I will suggest you choose colleges based on the following preference order

NIT Calicut>CET TRIVANDRUM>GEC THRISSUR>Government Engineering College Kottayam(RIT)>CUSAT>Model Engineering College

As you can see, CUSAT comes much later in the preference list so go for it only if it’s the last option.

Which is a better college, GEC Thrissur or CUSAT?

Both GEC Thrissur and CUSAT are good institutions and have their own strengths and weaknesses.

CUSAT is an autonomous university spread across 180 acres. The vast campus and multiple streams within it will allow you to network with people from different educational backgrounds. Also, you will get to attend national level fests and events over there. It has better sports facilities than most Engineering colleges in Kerala. It is in Kalamassery which is near Ernakulam and Kochi, so you will get to enjoy the city life as well. There are non-Keralite students as well at CUSAT. However, the Engineering fees over there is much higher than GEC, Thrissur. Also, it has a tough syllabus for Engineering.

GEC Thrissur’s campus is spread across 75 acres. It has a strong alumni network and it is under the direct control of Kerala Government. You will get ample freedom at GEC. Various cultural events and other activities keep happening within the campus. Its syllabus is easier and its fees are way lower than CUSAT.

Both of these have student groups, organizations and communities like IEEE, TinkerHub, ISTE, SAE, NSS, etc. that will offer you participation in extracurricular activities.

Both the institutions have their own perks. To know more about each, I would suggest you talk to their alumni.

Which is better, a BTech in mechanical engineering from GEC Thrissur or BTech in safety & fire engineering from CUSAT?

There is no better course as the choice of a course depends a lot on one’s preferences and future prospects. You need enough passion to like a course because every course has its good and bad parts.

BTech in Mechanical Engineering should be considered only if you are interested in it genuinely because it’s quite challenging. BTech in Safety and Engineering is mistakenly considered to be the easiest BTech program but the reality is far from this. This course covers topics from Mechanical, Civil, and even Chemical. As a result, this branch ends up being the Jack of all trades but the Master of none. The students of this branch are capable of handling HSE in almost any type of industry.

The placements of the Safety and Fire Engineering program are decent despite the limited opportunities. Companies like Reliance, BPCL, IOCL, ONGC, and VEDANTHA make good offers here.

So my verdict is to go for Mechanical if you are sure about your interest in it else Safety and Fire Engineering is a good choice.

NIT Calicut and GCE Thrissur are the two reputed institutes in Kerala. But NIT Calicut is leading over GCE for some reasons. Let us dive deep into the features of NIT Calicut

Faculty – NIT Calicut is exceptional with well-qualified faculties in all the branches when compared with other institutes.

Placement – Usually, the toppers get placed in major companies with decent salary packages, irrespective of the branch. The average student struggles a lot and needs to put in hard work to get a better placement, especially in the Department of Civil Engineering.

Research – The research possibility is higher for NIT students with a good CGPA abroad. If you are looking for research inside India, it is mandatory to qualify for the GATE examination.

Infrastructure – NIT Calicut is leading in terms of infrastructure compared to GEC. NITC has better machinery and lab facilities.

Overall, NIT Calicut is, comparatively, the best choice for your success.

Which college has the best chemical engineering department in Kerala: GEC Thrissur, NIT Calicut or TKM College?

UK

B.Tech in Civil Engineer from Government Engineering College, Thrissur (2016)

You should have a clear idea of what you are going to pursue after the four years. This way you can focus on a particular college accordingly for your undergraduate degree.

  1. If you are aspiring to get placed then go for NIT Calicut. Mostly 3 to 5 core companies often visit for chemical engineering branch with very decent packages.
  2. The campus life is worth living at NIT Calicut. You can enjoy various games at the hostel and special evening clubs are designed basically for holistic development.
  3. Another factor that makes NIT Calicut stand out is the politically passive environment where you can fully concentrate on your academics and engross yourself in the academics-related clubs along with some co-curricular activities.

The only disadvantage that NIT Calicut has is the weak alumni network due to the newly formed campus as compared to GEC Thrissur.

Along with the placements, the brand name of NIT when added to your resume can help you immensely for your future professional life. So think twice and consider all the factors before taking final admissions.

Which college should I choose, GEC Thrissur or Amrita University Coimbatore?

RG

Studied at IIJNM Bangalore (2019)

You can go to Amrita University without any doubt. Being a new generation college, people now think differently and do not opt for Government colleges just for their reputation.

A lot of my friends recently graduated from NIT Trichy in CSE while some who graduated from Amrita University are doing quite well.

According to my friend at Amrita, the environment is free and lenient. Furthermore, recently he won the 4th hackathon with his peers (team of 4) and his team was different in all 4 hackathons.

Categories Amrita University
Placement Percentage (overall) 85%
Highest CTC 28 LPA
Average CTC 8-10 LPA
Recruiting Companies Infosys, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, etc.

I hope it would be easier to come to a clear conclusion of which college to opt for. Choose Amrita if you aren’t getting your desired branch in IITs, NITs, or BITS. But, if you opt for Amrita University I assure you, you won’t regret it.
