CMC Vellore is a Christian minority institution. This is why the majority of its MBBS and PG seats are reserved for Christian candidates.

I am a non-Christian, and I completed my MBBS from CMC Vellore in 2021. Though CMC Vellore has a Christian-based reservation system for admissions into MBBS, certain seats are open to meritorious candidates of all faiths.

This is the MBBS seat distribution system at CMC Vellore:

  • Management Quota- 50% seats are reserved for management quota candidates. These seats are divided into three categories-
    • Open Category Seats
    • Christian Minority Seats
    • CMC Vellore Staff Quota Seats
  • Government Quota- 50% seats fall under the government quota. Out of these-
    • 30% seats are allocated by the State Government on the basis of the State Merit list of NEET examination.
    • 20% seats are allocated by the State Government to Christian Minority candidates from Tamil Nadu.

You can refer to the following seat distribution data from the 2024 Admission Bulletin of CMC Vellore-

CMC MBBS Seats

Out of 100 MBBS seats at CMC Vellore, 68 are reserved for Christian students. However, the remaining seats are open to students of other faiths as well.

Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore

The Christian community has contributed immensely to the Indian healthcare and education sector.

These are private institutions, not funded by the government in any way. So their administration has the right to formulate its own rules and regulations. Even the government institutions follow a different reservation scheme. Other minority institutions also reserve certain seats for the students of their community.

CMC Vellore and St. John’s produce some of the most hardworking and qualified doctors for our country. Even though they offer top facilities, these hospitals are quite affordable for poor people.

Thus, one should not complain about the Christian quota at these institutes. Rather, it is best to study hard with the goal of securing a seat for oneself.
