I am a third year B.Tech ECE student at IIT Bhubaneswar. ECE is one of the newer branches at IIT Bhubaneswar. Its first batch graduated in 2020.

The number of software companies that come for recruitment of ECE students is comparatively more than core companies. Marwell Electronics and Qualcomm are the core companies that recruit ECE students from IIT Bhubaneswar. Amazon, Microsoft, HSBC, Mathworks, Oyo, and Razorpay offer software related jobs to ECE students.

Here are the 2023 placement figures for B.Tech ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar and B.Tech Chemical at IIT Madras:

The general preference order is

College wise - IIT Madras > IIT Bhubaneswar
Branch wise - Chemical Engineering > ECE

However, this is simply a popular trend, and you don't have to follow it. It is best to make a decision based on your own individual preferences.

Here are some information to make your decision easier:-

IIT Madras chemical engineering has been established and the curriculum has rather refined throughout the decade or more.
The ECE branch in IIT Bhubaneswar was started recently a few years back.
IIT Bhubaneswar has a NIRF ranking 47th with IIT Madras at 1st.

The Average package for IIT Madras Chemical Engineering is 21 LPA.

You should choose the institute based on which branch you are interested in. Both the institutions are quite good but since the focus is on particular branches, certain points should be considered.

The ECE branch of IIT Bhubaneswar started in 2016 and the first batch will be graduating in 2020 itself. The branch has a record of 86% placement with an average salary of Rs.11.44 lakh p.a in 2019 placement drive. A good number of job opportunities are available at this IIT. The maximum recruitment is by far at good software companies and public sector undertakings. Faculties are well qualified and experienced.

Chemical engineering in IIT Chennai is an old branch with a well-defined syllabus. 2019 placement statistic revels Chemical engineering had 74% placements. The salary offered ranges between 4.8 lakhs to 32 LPA. Research and fringe facilities are also up to the mark.
