How good is an MTech in process control and instrumentation from NIT-Trichy? What are the job prospects?
MTech in Process Control and Instrumentation is one of the best branches you can get and has excellent job opportunities. The best part is its multifaceted nature that includes students from the Chemical, Instrumentation, and Electrical discipline. Although NIT Tricy does not release branch-wise placement statistics, one of my friends applied for an RTI in 2021, and here is the information included in it.

The Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering at NIT Trichy has fifteen permanent faculty members with teaching and research interests that cover a broad range of fields. The department consists of six well-equipped laboratories which are attached to the curriculum development. Additional four research-oriented labs are present in the department. All laboratories are very well established with adequate facilities.
Instrumentation and control engineering is a diverse field and offers scope in various fields. ICE at NIT Trichy enjoys placement good enough to be considered in top 5 branches. As a student of ICE, you can choose between software, electronics, core instrumentation, and management jobs. What is the scope of instrumentation & control engineering in NIT Trichy placement-wise?
NIT Trichy placements are good for Instrumentation & Control Engineering. Microsoft, P&G, Reliance Industries, etc. are some of the major recruiters that take part in the placement drive. The highest CTC offered to the students of this branch is around INR 40-50 LPA. Around 65-70% of students also get internship opportunities.
After completing a B.Tech from NIT Trichy, is it advisable to pursue an M.Tech in IITs or IISc?
No, it's certainly not a wise decision to pursue an MTech after completing BTech from NIT Trichy. The courses and the approach are similar, giving you no newer perspectives and wasting 2 years as well as the money spent. A better alternative is to go for an MS or Ph.D. abroad instead. That will be the true utilization of your money, knowledge, and time.
However, if you are hesitant about going abroad, an MBA from an Indian B school is also a great option.
An MTech in IIT should only be considered if you have a low CGPA and have no project achievement up your sleeve. The MTech course will give you a second chance to improve your grades and work well on projects improving your profile as a whole. This will help you open better Ph.D. options. But if you are not planning to do one, then MTech is again of no use.
What are the best things for NIT Trichy students to do on weekends?
One of my friends is studying at NIT Trichy and here is what they do on their weekends.
- In the morning at 5:30, you can grab a bicycle and ride to the temple near Opal. The temple is mesmerizing and peaceful, you may spot peacocks there.
- CCD is a two-minute walk from the temple, where you can have your morning coffee.
- There is a football ground near CCD, you can go for a walk or jog if you want.
- The campus of NIT Trichy has a brilliant and vibrant morning life. The students and faculty are often spotted playing lawn tennis or football.
- After having breakfast, you can head out to visit some places such as Tanjore Periya Kovil, Rock fort, heritage sites such as Srirangam, and Thiruvanaikovil. There is a church near Chatram which is splendid.
- For movies, you can visit LA cinemas or Vijay cinemas.
- There are all sorts of restaurants. One of the best is Hakkim, famous for its coffee. There are a few Dhabas too.
- You can go to Kodaikanal (4 hours away), Pondicherry (6 hours away), Bangalore (7 hours away) if you want to go outside Trichy.
It is up to you whether you want to go out of the campus or stay in. You can enjoy your weekend either way.

Is there ragging at NIT Trichy?
This is the question that scares each and every student while joining a new campus as a fresher. At NIT Trichy there is no such thing to worry about as there is no such thing as ragging in the campus.
- The campus is good, so try to enjoy your 4-year program on campus and don’t make any bad assumptions regarding your seniors.
- You will enjoy your college life especially in the first year of your college.
- In the first semester, you will have certain introductions and discussions with your seniors.
- The probable questions by them are our name, college, schooling, etc.
- They also form groups as per regions and language. The seniors are friendly and they will help you a lot in your college days.
After some past events in the college, the ragging on the campus has stopped and the college management is also very strict about that. There is a proper helping number and email ids through which you can immediately complain about any kind of misbehavior or ragging to the department and they will take action as soon as possible.
Which is the best college among NIT (Trichy,Warangal,Suratkal) for any Maharashtrian or North Indian to live happily i.e without facing any dominance of vernacular dialect student?
You won’t face any kind of dominance or bias studying at either college. The students are friendly and unless you provoke the other party, no one’s going to interfere in your business or harass you. It’s good to make friends belonging to diverse cultures rather than limiting yourself to certain cultural boundaries. Usually, IITs and NITs have very friendly seniors and peers and there isn’t ragging in any form.
Remember you are not here just to score a high grade or win medals. Rather, you are here to change your life and yourself and only learning from others' experiences will help you go a long way. So don’t worry and go for either NIT Trichy or NIT Warangal and make the most out of the available resources. Be empathetic and always think from a broader perspective. Only then can you attain new heights.
If I am considering either a CSE at BITS Pilani, chemical engineering in any IIT, or ECE or CSE at NIT Trichy, which one should I choose?
You should give preference to courses rather than the college. It is necessary to know about them beforehand. I can provide you a brief idea about each of the courses so that your choice becomes a little easier.
- Chemical Engineering involves chemistry, physics, mathematics, and even economics. You can also check the course curriculum of the courses at some institutes such as IIT Bombay.
- ECE is not just about circuits, semiconductor electronics, and Integrated Circuits. It involves a lot of mathematics such as calculus, functions, probabilities, and complex numbers. It also involves coding. If you are not very familiar with coding, you can do some free courses from Coursera, edX, MIT OCW, etc. before starting the course.
- CSE will involve lots of coding. Also, the placements in any college generally tend to be better than in other branches. So you may consider CSE for that as well.
If you want to do CSE or ECE, then BITS Pilani would be an excellent choice. For Chemical Engineering, IIT Bombay is a very good choice.
NITs generally are very good in core branches and for CSE and ECE they may not be a very good choice as the faculty is not good.
Who is currently the best coder of NIT Trichy?
Undoubtedly, the best coder in NIT-Trichy is Sudharsan Mohan. Here’s why:
- He is consistent in his performance regarding both academics and co-curricular activities.
- He got an employment offer from Facebook within 2 months of starting studying algorithms. He was working as an intern at Capital One when he received that offer.
- Now coming to efficiency, he is a multi-talented person excelling in subjects ranging from software development, software engineering to algorithms, networks, etc.
- Also in the field of computer science, he is a regular participant in coding contests and hackathons. He is a member of the prestigious coding and computer science club - Spider.
Apart from all the technical stuff, he is one of the most humble persons you will meet. Despite reaching heights, he always helps anyone with doubts in subjects and even teaches before the exams.
