The IIT Ropar Physics Department was established in 2009 with an aim to deliver high-level teaching methodologies and top-notch research work in advanced areas of experimental & theoretical physics.
The Department offers undergraduate programs, MSc. and Ph.D. in Physics. Nuclear and Particle Physics, Condensed Matter Physics & Material Science, Gravity & Strings, Light-Matter Interactions and Quantum Information are the important fields on which the department conducts research works. Dr. Rajeev Ahuja is the present IIT Ropar director. He joined his office as the director on 1st April 2021. Dr. Ahuja is a top Materials scientist, and a highly cited researcher in both India & Sweden. He completed his Ph.D. from IIT Roorkee in 1992. After that, he joined Uppsala University, Sweden as a postdoctoral fellow. Currently, he is also a professor at Uppsala University, Sweden for Computational Materials science.
The IIT Ropar chemistry department was established in 2009. The department started with only four faculty members, and three PhD students. In 14 years, it has grown significantly. Now, the IIT Ropar Chemistry Department has 15 regular faculty members, more than eighty PhD students, and 8 Post-Doctoral fellows.
