SM
Subhashree Modak Posted On : April 3rd, 2023
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (2020)

IIT Delhi typically offers internships to students in undergraduate or graduate programs. The application process generally includes the following steps:

  • Check the internship opportunities available on the IIT Delhi website.
  • Submit an online application, including your resume and a cover letter.
  • Complete any additional requirements, such as taking a test or providing transcripts.
  • Wait for a response from the internship coordinator or supervisor.

It's always a good idea to check the official website of IIT Delhi for the most up-to-date information on internships and the application process.

IIT Delhi usually starts accepting applications around Jan-Feb. You are required to upload your Resume, Cover letter, and an overview of a Research Paper published by any faculty member of the department you are applying at. In case they consider you eligible for the internship they will contact you via your email. A good CGPA might help but is not necessary for an internship.

Is it risky to take textile engineering in iit delhi with a motive of department change?

DS
Dipti Sinha Posted On : April 3rd, 2023
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (2022)

Department change is a very common debate among IITians so let me state some important points regarding the same to answer your question in a better way.

  • Department change happens after the end of the first year during which students of every branch study similar courses
  • The change is based on your CGPA and category
  • On an estimated 50 students from the General Category and 15 from the reserved category are allowed to change their departments
  • CGPA should be above 8 to be eligible for branch change

Now if we roughly calculate 6-7 students from a textile branch out of 55 are eligible for branch change. The competition seems to be tough and you are required to maintain a certain CGPA to target a certain branch. The CG required to transfer to the following branches are

  • CS: 9.6
  • Metallurgy: 9.6
  • EE: 9.4
  • Mechanical: 8.8
  • Chemistry: 8.4

If you are confident that you can achieve the required CG with the given competition, you can take them risk. But hear me out, even if you don’t manage to do so, remember branches can be switched in MTech too. Moreover, doing BTech from IIT Delhi will only open more opportunities and won't become a disappointment.

What is the package of textile of the IIT Delhi highest lowest and average?

IG
Ishank Gupta Posted On : February 27th, 2023
Studied at FORE School of Management

Department of Textile and Fibre Engineering was established on 1st January 2018 for developing and undertaking research on textiles for specific end uses. However, textile engineering is a relatively new and least opted branch.

When compared to other branches, it has the least average placement package. A sum of placement statistics of textile can be inferred from the table below

Particulars

Statistics

Highest CTC

INR 1.5 CPA

Lowest CTC

INR 6 LPA

Average CTC

INR 13 LPA

Most students go for consultancy, analyst or coding profiles as very few core Textile Companies visit the campus for recruitment.

The major companies that hire students from this specialization are

  • Accenture
  • Barclays Bank
  • Capgemini
  • Deloitte
  • Flipkart
  • GAIL(Gas AuthorityOf India Ltd)
  • Hindustan Unilever
  • ICICI Securities
  • JP Morgan Chase

In all truth, Textile technology at IITD does not do justice to the name and fame of the institute. Don’t choose this course just for the IIT tag as you will end up really disappointed.

What should a non CS student of IIT Delhi do to get job in IT or a coding related job?

SG
Sushmita Gupta Posted On : April 3rd, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

Many IITians target a coding job or a job in the IT sector be it CS or non-CS students. This is somewhat easy for CS students as they are in direct contact with computer science courses and have enough knowledge of the same. So, what should Non-CS students do to get IT or coding jobs?

Non-CS students can do the Data Structures course as an open course. This course will mar you somewhat suitable for Software Engineering roles and interviews. The knowledge acquired through these courses is more than enough to clear the interview successfully. The next step is to determine what CGPA will get you what kind of job.

  • 9-10 CGPA: Anything above 9 is a glittering aspect in your resume and will get you offers from Samsung, South Korea.
  • 8.5 CGPA: This is also considered decently good and carries enough weightage in your resume to get you good packages
  • Above 7.5: This is the usual cutoff for IT companies while shortlisting candidates.

Extracurriculars hardly matter in the IT industry unless you are targeting HUL or ITC.

For Finance jobs, the Probability and Stochastic Processes course in the 4th semester is a good choice.

What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at IIT Delhi?

SG
Sushmita Gupta Posted On : April 3rd, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

Here are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at IIT Delhi

  • Try to work harder than the bare minimum and don’t limit yourself to specific tasks only
  • Attend your classes regularly. This will help you prepare for your exams with minimal effort.
  • Maintain your CGPA well despite your seniors' advice that CG does not matter. In reality, it does matter especially to secure good roles and packages. Moreover, foreign universities consider your CG when selecting for higher education
  • Alongside your academics, make sure you pursue your hobby or anything that gives you a break from your studies
  • Explore every nook and corner of your college and interact with almost everybody. Avail of every opportunity that comes your way.
  • Don’t adopt a sheep mentality and follow every trend that your seniors have been following. For example, people tend to choose to code even if they are not interested just because it fetches good placements.
  • Whenever you feel you are at your lowest, share your concerns with someone, and don’t just keep bottling things inside.
  • Have a balanced diet and try to hit the gym
  • Stay away from distractions and bad habits
  • Interact with people with different personalities and mindsets to broaden your network

All these pointers will help you shape your future and make you a better person.

How good is the MS(R) program at IIT, Delhi?

AS
Ashmita Sinha Posted On : April 5th, 2023
Masters from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

The MS (R) program offered at IIT Delhi is one of the finest courses offered at the institute. Academically, its credibility lies between MTech and Ph.D. Apart from your core courses, you can choose any course and gain additional knowledge in that field.

Research-wise, the program is very dynamic and students are as actively involved in research as the Ph.D. students. Unlike BTech and MTech, the primary focus is on research rather than academics and project work.

Placements-wise, the branch is excellent with a 100% placement percentage.MB(R) students get placed even before MTech students. Many companies offering research-based job profiles consider the students of this branch.

So be it academics, research, or placements, the program offers it all and is thus a good choice.

KS
Kunal Sharma Posted On : April 3rd, 2023
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

Some aspects to determine the best branches for you at IIT Delhi are mentioned below:

  • Area of interest: If you let your passion decide the branch for you, then it’s the best way.
  • Placements: Undoubtedly, CS is the winner here with MnC and Electrical being the next.
  • Research: The biotechnology branch provides the best research opportunities but to avail them you will probably have to move abroad
  • A perfect blend of everything: The Engineering Physics branch with its perfect amalgamation of math, physics, and engineering is the right blend of everything one seeks in an engineering branch.
  • MBA/ Civil Services: Textile Engineering and Chemical Engineering are good choices as you will have ample time to prepare for CAT or UPSC.
  • Non-Core jobs: Non-core jobs usually depend on the individual's profile and not his branch
  • Extracurriculars - To spare time for extracurriculars you either need excellent time management skills or go for a branch with lighter coursework like Textile, Biotech, Chem, and EP.

Ultimately, the branch which is better for you is a matter of personal preference more than anything.

  • Fees: As a government institution, the fees of IIT Delhi is much more affordable as compared to BITS Pilani. This in turn, gives IIT Delhi a higher position in ROI (Return on Investment) because it offers even better placements.

Here are the important comparisons between Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi and CSE at BITS Pilani:
