How do I convert the University of Mumbai's 7 point scale CGPA to a percentage?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : July 7th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

The process for calculating the percentage is given below

  • O Grade = 7 Pointer = 70 and above
  • A Grade = 6 Pointer = 60 to 69.99
  • B Grade = 5 Pointer = 55 to 59.99
  • C Grade = 4 Pointer = 50 to 54.99
  • D Grade = 3 Pointer = 45 to 49.99
  • E Grade = 2 Pointer = 40 to 44.99
  • F Grade = 1 Pointer = 39.99 and below
You need to score a minimum of 30 to pass the examination. Initially, you need to convert the 7-point CGPA to a 10-point scale.

If a person has a 5.53 CGPA on 7 point scale CGPA then - (5.53 * 10)/7 = 7.9, which is a 10-point scale CGPA

Now calculate the percentage - 7.9 CGPA*9.3 (standard number used by companies that come for placements) = 73.47%

The PGDM program at Great Lakes was launched in 2012 July and my friend was a part of the earliest batches. Here is a detailed analysis of the program based on some important factors

  • Selection Process: Great Lakes Chennai PGDM admission is done on the basis of CAT/XAT/GMAT/CMAT/MAT scores and your profile. The score is a basis for your shortlisting and the rest depends on your profile and performance. Usually, the admission process includes a written essay and a PI round. The students are evaluated on an overall basis considering parameters like gender diversity, field diversity, and work experience.
  • Program Structure: Great Lakes Chennai PGDM program has a well-established PGDM program. The program begins with an orientation program that lasts for a week. You will be introduced to your batchmates, the faculty, and the specializations offered.
  • Faculty: Great Lakes faculty comprises world-renowned professors who are highly experienced yet humble. Should I study CSE at BITS Pilani or CSE at IIT (BHU)?

RR
Ritu Raj Posted On : July 31st, 2024
student at IIT BHU

IIT BHU  and BITS Pilani are both highly respected engineering colleges in India. Here’s why IIT BHU is a better option out of the two:

  1. Brand Value: The "IIT" name is prestigious and globally recognized. This reputation can be very helpful when applying for jobs or higher studies abroad.
  2. Affordable Fees: As a government institution, IIT BHU has much lower fees compared to BITS Pilani, which is a private institution. This makes IIT BHU more affordable for students.
  3. High Return on Investment (ROI): Due to its lower fees and excellent placements,  IIT BHU has a higher ROI. Students of IIT BHU invest comparatively less money in their education, but they receive high-paying jobs after graduation.

Here is a comparison between IIT BHU and BITS Pilani:

Particulars

IIT BHU CSE

BITS PILANI CSE

NIRF Ranking: Engineering

INR 1.15 CPA

INR 60.75 LPA (overall)

Average package (2023)

INR 30.37 LPA (overall)

CTC Range

-

INR 11-38 LPA (IT/Tech branch)

McAfee, McKinsey & Co, CA Technologies, etc.

*(for SC/ST/PwD students, and others with family income <= 1 LPA, the tuition fee is 0. The tuition is exempted by 2/3rd for students with family income <=5 lakh and > 1 lakh).

IIT BHU is much more cost-effective than BITS Pilani, and it has better placements as well. Therefore, IIT BHU CSE is a much better option.

Which is better, VIT Vellore, Thapar Patiala or SRM?

S
Shruthi Posted On : May 15th, 2024
B.Tech student at VIT Vellore

Although all three of these colleges are well-renowned for their engineering courses, there are certain factors that particularly interested me to opt for VIT Vellore. I am currently pursuing B.Tech CSE at VIT.

  1. VIT Vellore ranks excellently in the NIRF Engineering rankings, even better than the other two colleges mentioned by you. In the 2023 NIRF engineering rankings, VIT Vellore ranked 11th.
  2. VIT Vellore is located near Chennai and Bangalore. This allows the students of VIT to gain the much needed exposure which allows them to grab good career opportunities after their graduation.
  3. Academically, both VIT and Thapar are equally placed. VIT offers good academic opportunities, but the North Indian might face some cultural shock.
  4. In terms of faculty, Thapar has an advantage. But even VIT has some really good teachers.

These factors made me interested in joining VIT Vellore. I would suggest you consider VIT for your BTech as it offers good infrastructure and ample opportunities.

What is the reality behind the 1.5 crore package grabbed by IIT Roorkee student?

AG
Ashish Gupta Posted On : April 11th, 2023
Lives in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India

I am the right person to answer this question as my sister was a batchmate of the student who grabbed a 1.5 crore package offered by Microsoft Redmond. This package was offered to CSE and ECE students.

Microsoft was recruiting based on 2 profiles: Microsoft (Software) India and Microsoft Redmond USA

For Microsoft India, CTC offered was 39 Lakhs and the in-hand salary was 1 lakh per month which is similar to other IT companies.

For Microsoft Redmond, the CTC was 1.5 crore while the in hand was around 45 Lakhs.

Keeping in mind the PPP of USA vs India, the approximate value is 15 LPA. Do you think this is an extraordinary package, considering all the factors I have mentioned? Many companies visiting the campus even offer packages ranging between 20-25 LPA. In fact, an Indian company AppDynamics had offered a package of Rs.45 lakhs with 30 lakhs in hand. Many such offers by Indian companies are better than US companies. It’s just that the international offers are extremely hyped and not many go into details of the monetary value.

Do we get migration certificate in Delhi University?

AS
Anita Shukla Posted On : November 15th, 2022
Studied at University of Delhi (Graduated 2018)

Yes, you get your migration certificate after the completion of your degree. But colleges don’t provide you with it. Right after completion, colleges only give you your:

  • Character Certificate
  • Provisional Certificate

The final degree certificate is handed over after around 1-2 years.

To get your Migration Certificate, you are required to fill out a form. This form can be obtained from your college or from V.C. Office. Get it attested by your college and submit it to the examination department of Delhi University.

Duration: 1 week

Fees: INR 500

Note- students at the South campus are to apply for a migration certificate at the D.U’s examination department in the South campus. The rest have to apply at the examination dept. at the V.C office on the North campus.
