As you can assess, the placement figures are quite good. So as far as job opportunities are concerned, you can definitely consider NIT Durgapur for your electrical degree.

Which should I prefer Jadavpur University IT or NIT Durgapur CSE?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 23rd, 2023

Comparing Jadavpur University and NIT Durgapur is illogical and the same as comparing oranges and apples. Both the colleges have their unique strengths and weaknesses. Consider the following points becoming making the decision

  • If you value quality education over brand value and NIT Tag, then choose Jadavpur.
  • Both colleges are at a similar level in terms of placements, faculties, and academics. In fact, the companies visiting for placements are also almost the same.
  • Jadavpur University does not have provision for in-campus hostel facilities. This might be a major issue for some

So if you are ready to stay outside the campus and have no interest in the NIT tag then choose Jadavpur but if you want a NIT degree then choose NIT Durgapur.

Which is better: CSE in NIT, Durgapur or metallurgy in NIT, Warangal?

KS
Kalyan Shastri Posted On : September 8th, 2023
Lives in Warangal

I would like you to consider certain important things before making your decision-

  • College- Without a doubt, NIT Warangal is ahead of NIT Durgapur in terms of faculty, infrastructure and hostel facilities.
  • Subject - You need to choose your subject based on your interests. Without that you’ll either hate your profession or choose a completely different career path altogether. If you are into math, coding, logic and problem-solving, choose CSE. On the other hand, if you want to study materials, metals, extraction, etc, choose Metallurgy.
  • Profession - CSE will give you better opportunities in the IT sector. You might get a fat check, work for a good company, and live in metropolitans. As you know, IT jobs are basically office jobs.On the other hand, core Metallurgy jobs deal with steel plants, mines and such. You’ll end up working in a remote area if you choose a core job.The placements for CSE are overall much better than Metallurgy, across all engineering colleges. But if you have a passion for metallurgy, you might end up in a good brand or get selected for a government position.
  • Location- Both the places are culturally very different. Research a bit, and figure out which place’s food habits, climate, and culture suits you better.

According to me your college will last for 4 years. However, your branch will become an intrinsic part of your personality and profession. Unless you have an interest in Metallurgy or a good chance at sliding to another branch, choose CSE at NIT Durgapur.

Which is better: CSE in NIT, Durgapur or metallurgy in NIT, Warangal?

M.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Warangal

NIT Warangal is better in terms of infrastructure, faculty, campus, faculty, and placement support. But the recruiters prefer students from the software field; the metallurgical students only get an average salary package, which is pitiful.

The decision can be made by giving primary importance to your interests and you should keep in mind that the selection of a better branch decides your future and not the college

What are the drawbacks of NIT Durgapur?

SD
Shivani Das Posted On : September 8th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology Durgapur (2019)

Though I love my college, here are some areas that need to work on with sincerity-

  • Learning Method- Students are expected to follow an orthodox learning style. To become a 9-pointer, you’ll have to memorize class notes. Students mug up answers and write them in their answer sheets. All this requires simply a week-long preparation before the respective exam. Professors don’t encourage creativity on answer sheets, they want an exact reflection of their notes.
  • Administration- The administration isn’t supportive at all. There is a fine/ charge for everything. You are expected to pay money for college ID, low attendance,  college bonafide, and practically every other thing.
  • Training and Placement Cell- They organize no training programs to prepare students for job interviews. Even if you find a training program that needs college approval, you’ll face many obstacles in acquiring their permission. Placements are good, but you’ll have to prepare on your own.
  • Hostel Infrastructure- The majority of hostels were built in the 1960s, and have never been renovated since. The rooms are in poor condition and the occasional paint job does minimum to hide the damages.

NIT Durgapur has given me lovely seniors and amazing friends. I will always cherish these memories. But these (and some more) areas need serious attention from the college authorities.

Which is better NIT Durgapur for CSE or IIEST Shibpur for CST?

RS
Raghav Saini Posted On : September 16th, 2020
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology Durgapur (2022)

With regards to educational standards and latest equipped technologies, Indian institutes have always had an upper hand considering greater popularity and a higher amount of funding from the central government.

IIEST Shibpur is the second oldest engineering college in India and backs a ranking of 19 by NIRF among engineering institutes. NIT Durgapur on the other hand is ranked 47 by NIRF for Engineering in the year 2020.

IIEST Shibpur has a research-based approach towards the BTech program in CST as compared to NIT Durgapur which has a much more theoretical and practical approach.

Let us have a look at the main points of differences between the two colleges mentioned that will help you narrow down a decision.

Admission: IIEST Shibpur and NIT Durgapur, both the institutes offer admission for BTech programs based on JEE Mains scores.

  • In 2019 the closing cutoff for CST at IIEST Shibpur was 9379.

  • In 2019 the closing cutoff for CSE at NIT Durgapur was 17031.

Fees: The total fees for IIEST Shibpur CST are 5.38 lakhs and for NIT Durgapur it’s 5.56 lakhs.

Placements: Both the institutes offer good placements and more than 90 companies visit the campuses for recruitments every year.

IIEST Shibpur-

  • IIEST Shibpur offers an 81.82% placement rate for the CST branch.

  • The average median salary offered to the students of CST is around 6.5 lakh.

  • Some top recruiting companies are TCS, IBM, and Axis Bank.

NIT Durgapur-

  • NIT Durgapur offers the highest placement for the CSE branch with a placement rate of 88.64%.

  • An average salary of 9 LPA is offered to the students.

  • Some top recruiting companies are Amazon, Oracle, and Sigma.

Infrastructure: The campus facilities at both the colleges are well maintained and offer a great student experience but IIEST has a more advanced infrastructure considering it receives a higher funding amount annually as compared to NIT Durgapur.

Alumni: IIEST Shibpur has had collaborations with top universities like the University of Wisconsin and also oversees ‘World leaders in Engineering’ as part of their glorious alumni network. The alumni base of NIT Durgapur is not as developed as compared to IIEST Shibpur.

Go through the given points in mind and make a well-informed decision in terms of admissions accordingly.

Which is better if one is planning to apply for an MBA/PGDM from IIMs after graduation: ECE and/or CSE at NIT Durgapur, or IT at Jadavpur University? Why?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 8th, 2023

Let me share with you some important details about these courses/institutes-

  1. NIT Durgapur is a residential campus so you’ll get ample exposure during your undergraduate studies. On the other hand, JU doesn’t even offer IT on its main campus.
  2. NIT DGP is an Institute of National Importance. This makes it more significant on a national level.
  3. NIT Durgapur is seeing a growing number of recruitments in its CSE branch. Startups visit the campus with interesting offers for CSE students.
  4. The student community of NIT Durgapur is more diverse.
  5. NIT DGP has no political interference. JU, on the other hand, is heavily influenced by state politics.
  6. In terms of extracurricular activities, JU is a better choice.
  7. The CSE/ECE departments of NIT DGP lack good infrastructure, have inconsistent course structure and content, and have a low teacher-student ratio. These departments lack quality research work.
  8. Phd.s in the CSE department of NIT Dgp are low in number.
  9. But NIT DGP carries the much-valued ‘NIT’ tag.

That being said, I feel you are at a very early stage of narrowing down your goals and aspirations to this extent. Enter your UG with an open mind, and an aim for self-discovery. Right now, you have a picture in mind of doing an MBA. But I don’t think you have a proper idea of the different specializations in this degree.

You should have made a clear decision by the end of your 3rd year. Before that, pursue internships and discover your field of interest. Right now, look for the institute that will offer you the best technical education and the best future prospects.

Which is better - NIT Durgapur Metallurgy or VIT Vellore CSE?

SD
Sharad Dev Posted On : September 8th, 2023
Lives in Chennai

As a CSE student at VIT Vellore, I was also faced with the same dilemma.

First of all, there is a ragging culture at NIT Durgapur. It does carry the NIT, but it lags behind the top NITs. Apart from that, Metallurgy does not offer much scope in India.

The placement figures mentioned on their website, however, are quite promising.

During the 2023 placement season, MME recorded 90.32% placements with an average package of 8.79 LPA.

Now coming to VIT Vellore, there is no ragging on campus. It offers all the top-class facilities, great environment and friendly crowd. CSE is the best branch of VIT Vellore. The college offers good placements and infrastructure.

According to me, choosing CSE at VIT Vellore is a better option.
