What are the best placement stories of NIT, Jamshedpur?

RD
Rohan Dubey Posted On : March 15th, 2024
Studied at NIT Jamshedpur

This is an inspiring placement story of one of my seniors from B.Tech CSE at NIT Jamshedpur. He is a dedicated, talented, and hardworking person.

In 2015, Amazon visited the campus to recruit interns. This senior of mine applied for the internship, along with others in the department. He cleared the written round and the 1st technical interview. But he failed to clear the 2nd technical interview. So he was not among the 5 students who secured the intern position.

A year later, Amazon visited again with a full-time software development engineer position. This time the guy was determined to crack the test. He was one of the only 2 students who cleared the written round and 4 technical interviews. So this time, he secured the position at Amazon.

Amazon offers one of the highest packages at NIT Jamshedpur. This guy cleared its difficult test against all odds. He cleared the test in 2016, and joined the company precisely one year later, after completing his B.Tech.

This guy enrolled at NIT Jamshedpur in 2013. His roll number contained the number 13, and so did his hostel room number. It feels like 13 is his lucky number after all!

It completely depends on whether you are a girl or a boy. If you are a girl, then you can enjoy the following things:

  • Pastry from Brubeck
  • Pizza from Dominos
  • Enjoy golgappe from the renowned Kamaani Centre.
  • Try cold coffee and thandai from Sardarjee ki shop at Bistupur Market.
  • Besides, you can also visit the mandir, in front of the NIT gate, before attending the classes in the morning.

Now, if you are a boy, then you can enjoy whatever you wish to.

  • You can enjoy tiffin with heavy Mughlai Paratha. You have to wash your jeans on your own in the evening.
  • You can also have philosophical discussions by sitting on the roller of Ups ground.
  • Another enjoyable thing you can enjoy is the Batolabaazi, which means you can gossip with your brainless friends about mindless topics.

Thus, you can do a lot of things during your weekend breaks.

  • You can visit Jubilee Park, which is the main attraction of the city, Jamshedpur. This place will give them natural peace, besides; students can also enjoy boat riding in the Jayanti Sarovar Lake. There is also a zoo, and the student can explore many things here.
  • Recently, a big mall, namely P&M HI-TECH has been set up here.

There are also good restaurants, Blue Diamond and Delhi Darbar, which are the best place for a weekend visit. However, there is also KFC and Dominos in sakchi and Bistupur respectively.

Lastly, if you want to do some cloth marketing, You can visit Bistupur Market. However, for books and daily essentials, you have to go to Sakchi. There are also a good collection of books in Agarwal Book Store, and for stationary Maha Lakshmi Stores.

Which is better in terms of placements: CSE NIT Jamshedpur or CSE NIT Jalandhar?

DV
Dishant Verma Posted On : April 14th, 2023
Lived in Jalandhar, India (1998–2017)

Both NIT Jamshedpur and NIT Jalandhar offer excellent B.Tech CSE programs and have a good track record of placements. However, if you have to choose one of the two based solely on placements, it would be recommended to go for CSE NIT Jamshedpur. Here are a few reasons why:

  • Higher average package: CSE Average Package at NIT Jamshedpur is slightly higher than that of NIT Jalandhar. The average package at NIT Jamshedpur is around Rs. 9-10 lakhs per annum, while at NIT Jalandhar it is around Rs. 7-8 lakhs per annum.
  • More top-tier companies visit NIT Jamshedpur: NIT Jamshedpur attracts a higher number of top-tier companies to its campus during the placement season. Companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Goldman Sachs have visited the campus in the past, providing students with a wider range of job opportunities.
  • Strong alumni network: NIT Jamshedpur has a strong alumni network, with many alumni working in top companies across the world. This network can provide students with valuable connections and opportunities in their careers.

Both colleges have a good reputation and offer quality education in the field of Computer Science. Placements are just one of the many factors to consider when choosing a college, and it's recommended to research and compare the colleges based on factors such as curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, and campus life before making a decision.

NIT Silchar is similar to all the other NITs like MANIT, NITJ, NITD still its cutoff/ranking is low, what are the probable reasons?

SK
Sanjana Kapoor Posted On : August 24th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

If you look at all the criteria MHRD takes into consideration while ranking institutes, NIT Silchar is at par with most NITs but in terms of research, and infrastructure. The only parameter in which NIT Silchar was behind NIT Warangal was reputation and the difference was drastic. This affected the overall ranking of the institute in turn lowering the NT Silchar cutoffs.

I think the major reason behind its poor reputation is its remote location and the rumors related to it. It's falsely rumored to be in a Naxalite region and the exposure is believed to be minimal. The institute has a bad reputation, particularly in North India.

I have friends from several NITs and I have safely concluded that NIT Silchar is better than many but it's difficult to convince people of the same and the institute has a bad reputation.

To fix this problem, we need our alumni to be more active in portraying the right image of the institute. Additionally, the institute should hold more inter-college events and strive to build a reputation.

How is the campus and surroundings of NIT Jamshedpur?

GG
Gargi Gupta Posted On : September 4th, 2023
Studied at NIT Jamshedpur

If you are expecting a magnificent campus that will leave you in awe with its beauty and infrastructure then you can lower your expectations because NIT Jamshedpur is nothing like that. You might even get disappointed with the campus on your very first day. However, the administration is slowly working to bring about small changes in the campus and infrastructure.

  • The hostel facilities are the best in the country especially since the new Mega Hostels offering single occupancy rooms have come into function. The hostels are well-maintained and are cleaned regularly to ensure hygienic conditions. The mess food is also better than many others.
  • Although the campus is remotely located, the basic needs and amenities of the students are catered to by nearby stores like ‘NIT Store’ or ‘Shyam Da Store’.
  • The campus is surrounded by lush greenery. The roads leading to the campus are well-constructed making the commute an easier process.

Overall, the campus and surroundings of NIT Jamshedpur are great and once you start studying here you will grow emotionally attached to the campus such that its minor flaws won’t even matter.

What is it like taking ECE in NIT Jamshedpur?

SS
Saurabh Seth Posted On : September 4th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2020)

As an ECE student, you will be taught C and Data structures as a part of the ECE curriculum and not an extra subject. One needs to have good programming skills to excel in this branch. A skilled ECE engineer is someone who has a strong grasp of concepts as well as programming skills. He can easily get a job in core companies and need not opt for software-based jobs.

Electronics

  • Writing code in Embedded C or some other assembly language for processors, controllers, and high-end boards.

  • In the VLSI domain, you have to write code in Verilog or VHDL to design a circuit/ chips.
  • In communication, MATLAB - a widely used computing tool - C like a simple programming language used in it.

Networks

  • This requires a deep understanding of concepts and having to work with software and NW-related languages.

Overall, ECE students require good programming skills to apply/ test/ design their core concepts in the real world. Due to some similarities in the curriculum, many software companies allow ECE, and EEE students to sit with CS and IT for placements.
