Both BITS Pilani and IIT Ropar are excellent institutions with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Work Experience: If you have work experience you will have an edge over others. Because if you have experience in industrial fields, working on practical problems will be easier for you. Also in pursuing academics further, experience generally comes in handy.

IIT Ropar offers hostel facilities to students. For the upcoming batch, two students accommodate in one room for first-year and second-year students. For the third-year and fourth-year students, single occupancy rooms are available.
In the past years, four students used live inside a room in the first year. It was a troublesome but memorable phase for students. Double occupancy rooms are preferable better but may become monotonous.
The students used to criticize the four-sharing room at the time of admission, but they lived their lives peacefully with a lot of fun. However, this is not possible for the new batches.
Overall, accommodation is one of the factors among various others for the selection of college.

According to some of my friends studying at IIT Ropar, the starting days of college consists of an Induction Programme under ISMP (Institute Student Mentorship program) in which the students are allotted a mentor for any inconveniences.
There is no sort of ragging which takes place in IIT Ropar. There is an Anti-Ragging community on the campus of IIT Ropar with the motto of "Ragging is crime and reward is jail". If any situation of ragging arises, he/she can directly contact the mentor or any other teacher. No kind of ragging takes place in IIT Ropar.
IIT Ropar was established a few years back and thus it is a bit too early to say whether the institute can further develop a good coding culture or not. However, in this small number of years, the coding culture has really gained momentum.
The institute has a coding club that has some very enthusiastic seniors and they guide their juniors really well by taking special sessions, conducting workshops, etc. Many of the students have even won various national-level competitions and have brought laurels both to themselves as well as the institute. Recently the students have won a hackathon organized by the Government of India and were awarded by the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi.
The faculty of the CSE department is also very cooperative and as time goes by the coding culture at IIT Ropar should develop even further.
To become an assistant professor at IIT Ropar you must first obtain a PhD. This is the minimum eligibility criteria for any IIT to apply for the post of assistant professor.
Then you will have to compete with many other candidates and to stay above the competition you will need to have an outstanding academic career throughout.
You will also need to have various published papers in many international and reputed journals. This will give you an edge over others.
This is a suggestion beyond the scope of this question. But if you can start low in a company and struggle for 2-3 years, I believe that you can land a more lucrative and satisfying job later on. Doing an M.Tech and then a Ph.D. will take a very long time.
