Is IIT Hyderabad better than NIT Rourkela?

DS
Divya Saraf Posted On : August 9th, 2023
Lives in Hyderabad

IIT Hyderabad clearly triumphs over NIT Rourkela because of a number of reasons. Some of the string ones have been stated below

  • The research culture at IITs cannot be matched to that of NITs yet. IITs receive huge funds in the range of 5–10 crores, whereas NIT’s average range of research projects is only 10–50 lakhs.
  • IIT Hyderabad is a recently established IIT so the infrastructure is new and the hostels are designed using the French design.
  • IIT Hyderabad has modern equipment and technologies in all academic blocks and all hostel blocks.
  • IIT Hyderabad has strong ties with international universities, especially in Japan and Australia. The students get better exposure and internship opportunities.
  • IIT Hyderabad offers the much coveted IIT tag that will open gates of opportunities be it for jobs or higher education.

So, IIT Hyderabad is clearly a better option than NIT Rourkela in terms of everything, education, opportunities, and infrastructure.

What are your thoughts on food processing engineering at NIT Rourkela?

PJ
Prateek Jha Posted On : August 14th, 2023
NIT Rourkela (2016)

NIT Rourkela's newly launched branch Food Processing has a wide scope for development and research and its worth cannot simply be judged through its placements. It caters to the ones interested in the production and processing of food and maintaining its quality.

The branch covers all arenas of food marketing from developing food and machines to keeping the food safe. It comprises concepts from various other branches too like mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, and Food Science and Engineering.

As there is growth and development in India with respect to Food and Beverage Processing, there has opened up a gate for great research and job opportunities, as well, in the near future or I would say it has already started.

I asked a friend about the placement scenario of the branch and he told me that around 80-85% of students are placed. The highest salary package offered is 17 LPA. Most of the students receive internship opportunities while some prefer going to top foreign universities to pursue higher studies or research.

Some of the core companies visiting the campus for placement are Milk Mantra, IDMC, Tetra Pak, etc. Some of the non-core companies visiting the campus for placement are ZS Associates, TCS, EXL Services, Tredence, Affine Analytics, etc.

Other programs that students of this branch end up going to include Management programs in IIM-A, XIMB, NIBM, BITS Pilani, and direct Ph.D. in foreign universities. Some even go for M.Tech Program in NIFTEM.

So, the B.Tech program in Food Process Engineering is a great choice for interested students considering its increasing demand and scope.

How good are Placements in NIT Rourkela for M Tech CSE? Please Help

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 14th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

The quality of roles and packages offer to MTech CSE students of NIT Rourkela depends on individual skills and expectations and therefore cannot be generalized.

Here is a brief overview of NIT Rourkela MTech in CSE

Duration

2 years (Full Time)

Course Level

PG Degree

Total Tuition Fees

INR 3.56 Lakh

Total Seats

25

Highest CTC

INR 34.2 LPA

Average CTC

INR 12.1 LPA

Lowest CTC

INR 3.6 LPA

Median CTC

INR 6.8 LPA

Top Recruiters

Accenture, Adobe, Amazon, Capgemini, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, IBM, Infosys, Reliance Industries Limited

Overall, the placement conditions are decent and not all students get placed. Most CS companies allow only BTech students to sit for placements and therefore Mech students end up in service-based companies like TCS, and IBM (GBS). This poor placement scenario stems from the outdated CSE curriculum at NIT Rourkela. The curriculum focuses on theoretical concepts only and students are not exposed to practical experiences.

So, I will suggest you go for CSE M.tech at NIT Rourkela only if you are unemployed after your BTech or you want to pursue your career academically. Joining this course on the pretext of getting better jobs will not be a wise decision.

Is NIT Rourkela good, like NIT Trichy?

R
Rishi Posted On : February 27th, 2024
IIT Goa

NIT Rourkela has very good infrastructure, placements, rankings and facilities. It has a legacy of its own. But it can not be compared with NIT Trichy as of yet. Perhaps a few years down the line, Rourkela will reach the level of Trichy. But as of now, Trichy is the best among all NITs. NIT Trichy has much higher placement stats than NIT Rourkela.

You should choose NIT Rourkela over NITT only if you get a very good branch or a core branch at the former, and a not so good branch at the latter.

Is it better to take a lower branch in NIT Rourkela or a good branch in CET, BBSR?

KS
Kalyan Sahu Posted On : August 14th, 2023
Lives in Bhubaneshwar

In my opinion, choosing a lower branch at NIT Rourkela is better than choosing a good branch at CET BBSR. Whenever choosing a college, always give preference to the institute over the branch. This is because choosing a bad institute can limit your experience no matter how good the branch is. The poor faculty, infrastructure, and opportunities will affect your academics, and the ‘good branch’ will not come to your rescue.

On the contrary, an average branch but a good institute will provide more scope in terms of exposure and academics. The right guidance from an experienced faculty will provide opportunities even in a low branch. Moreover, one can never be certain of the right branch for themselves as they have limited knowledge of the courses taught.

So, it's wise to choose a lower branch at NIT Rourkela than to go for a better branch at CET BBSR.
