Why do students at BITS Pilani, Goa lack "technical skills"?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 5th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Firstly, The students from BITS Pilani, Goa, got exposed to club activities in non-technical fields in the first year itself, which played a major role in decreasing their interest in the core subjects and starting to cross over to other nontechnical skills. They only understood their exact passion for the core subject after doing the compulsory branch courses in the third year. And they finally started to build up their technical skills in the last year. This tendency only leads to a lack of experience in the technical field.

Secondly, most of the students here are not actually passionate about their courses because cut-offs decided their careers. This lack of interest decreases productivity.

Thirdly, the students give more importance to the CGPA and have the tendency to mug up every topic without having a deep understanding. Of course, a CGPA is good for higher education. But most of the students end up lacking technical skills in their field due to this tendency.

And there are so many other reasons, including a lack of course projects and electives, an increase in competitive coding culture, and so on.

How many marks should one get to have access to CSE in BITS Goa?

MB
Mrunmay Bhatt Posted On : March 21st, 2023
BE in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus (Graduated 2018)

In BITS Goa, admission to the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program is based on the candidate's performance in the BITSAT exam, which is conducted by the institute. The BITSAT exam is a computer-based test that evaluates candidates' aptitude in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, English Proficiency, and Logical Reasoning.

The BITSAT exam is scored out of 450 marks, and the cutoff for CSE in BITS Goa varies from year to year. In general, a candidate should aim to score at least 350-400 marks in the BITSAT exam to have a good chance of getting admission to the CSE program at BITS Goa. However, this is just a rough estimate, and the actual cutoff may be higher or lower depending on factors like the difficulty level of the exam and the number of applicants for the CSE program in a particular year.

It's important to note that the BITSAT exam is just one aspect of the admission process, and the final selection is based on a combination of the candidate's BITSAT score and their performance in Class 12 or equivalent examination. BITS Goa also considers factors like extracurricular achievements, work experience, and diversity in the student body while making admission decisions.

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 14th, 2023

Both NIT Suathkal and BITS Pailni are the dream colleges of most engineering aspirants owing to their high reputation and excellence in the field of education. However, NIT is a government college whereas BITS Pilani is a private engineering college that costs much more. Here are a few points you would like to consider before making the final decision

  1. First of all, you need to determine what you are looking for from your degree. If you want to associate yourself with a brand then NIT has better recognition globally. Letters of Recommendation from Surathkal professors are very valuable.
  2. NIT Surathkal has a better location being near the IT hub, Bangalore. The opportunities offered both on and off campus are plentiful.
  3. Infrastructure-wise, NIT Surathkal is better mainly because it has its own private beach. Additionally, hostels are well-built and the facilities are at par with IIT standards.
  4. NIT Surathkal charges very low fees in comparison to BITS.

So, I feel it's better to opt for NIT Surathkal!
