Have I done a mistake choosing MNNIT Allahabad CSE instead of IIT BHU Electrical Engineering? I am feeling very guilty. Isn’t there any way I could reverse this?

I don’t consider it wise to have left such a great opportunity to study at an IIT and choose MNIT Allahabad instead. Things would have been better if you had gone for a better NIT.

However, there is no use in whining now and you need to take things into your hands rather than giving up. While the choice of an institute is certainly important, it’s the students' capabilities that surpass all possibilities. I have seen great institutes produce average students and average institutes produce great students. You can be a part of that category. Moreover, CSE is always a better option than EE. You can still give your best and score better than your IIT counterparts. Even if you had taken Electrical, you would have had to study coding and CSE already has that. So it means lesser burden.

Ultimately, be positive, make the most out of the 4 years, and stop regretting.

I think choosing IIT (BHU), Varanasi is a better option here considering the various perks it will offer

  • The rare chance of studying CSE from one of the oldest IITs to exist. Remember the older, the more experienced.
  • IIT BHU has a very rich coding culture which is promoted through international events like ACM ICPC, Google Code Jam, and Google Summer of Code.
  • The campus welcomes all major software companies during placements both summer and final.
  • You get to enjoy college life at a huge campus with students from all over the country
  • IIT BHU focuses a lot on the holistic development of its students through various extracurricular activities l.
  • You get a chance to explore the holy city of Varanasi.

IIT BHU is one of the oldest institutes and is daily a preferable choice to IIT Hyderabad, a new IIT.

How did you feel after visiting IIT BHU after so many years?

My brother is an alumnus of IIT (BHU) Varanasi and has a special attachment to this place. He still is in touch with his friends from the college. Recently, a miracle happened. He got the golden opportunity to deliver a talk at IIT after 30 years of his graduation.

On reaching the institute he received a warm welcome, and a student even offered to take him on a tour of the campus.

The first visit he made was to his final year hostel that had the most amazing memories, Visvesvaraya Hostel. He realized that apart from a new flow and changes in the occupancy number, everything was just the same. After this, his 2nd and 3rd year hostel, the Limbdi Hostel seemed to have changed a bit and seemed livelier.

By 6 30 he was ready to deliver his lecture although anxious about the audience. Surprisingly enough the hall was full and many had come to attend the lecture. He spoke on the current economic condition of India and answered all their queries. After this, there was a group picture with the members of the club.

The students requested him to give an interview on the current economic scenario of the country. He was amazed by their enthusiasm and agreed to do so.

The visit brought back the best memories and he left with a heavy heart and teary-eyed in awe with the warmth and spirit of the students and the institute.

How are the placements of Ceramic Engineering at IIT BHU?

Integrated Masters Degree Mathematics and Computing, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi

IIT BHU placements are decent for Ceramic Engineering. But very few students get core placements. Tata Steel is among the core recruiters that take part in the campus drive.

Most students are recruited in non-core job profiles such as Software Developer, Data Scientist, etc. The highest CTC offered for the students of this branch is around INR 38 LPA.

IIT BHU and IIT Guwahati are well-established and reputed institutions in India. Both of them have pros and cons. If you need to secure your career in a good company, IIT BHU is a good option for you. They are best at placement support and academics, and you will have the advantage of the branch change policy. Let us have a detailed comparison between IIT BHU and IIT Guwahati

Placement Support – The recruiters from major companies mostly give placement to the students from IIT BHU. This institution is renowned for its placement support, and they confirm that they provide effective placement for their students contingent on their caliber in the respective field. At IIT Guwahati, only a lesser number of students got placed in big companies with high-salary jobs when compared with IIT BHU.

Campus – Both institutes offer good campus life to the students. They have good infrastructure and a top library facility. IIT BHU is situated in the center of the city, so you will have easy access to everywhere

If you are currently deciding between IIT Guwahati and IIT BHU, it is important to consider several factors before making your final decision. While both institutions are highly ranked and reputable, they do have some differences that may be important to you. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Choose a branch based on your interests: It is crucial to select a branch that you are passionate about, rather than one that is popular or has a higher ranking. Pursuing a field that you enjoy and excel in can lead to a more fulfilling and successful career.
  2. IIT Guwahati has better infrastructure: If you value modern facilities and equipment, then IIT Guwahati may be the better option for you. It is known for its advanced laboratories, libraries, and classrooms.
  3. IIT BHU has better placement opportunities: If job prospects after graduation are your top priority, then IIT BHU may be the better choice. It has a strong alumni network, and more international companies tend to visit the campus for recruitment purposes.
  4. Consider cultural societies: If you are interested in extracurricular activities, then you may want to look into the cultural societies at each institution. Both IIT Guwahati and IIT BHU have a range of clubs and organizations, but they may differ in terms of focus and opportunities.
  5. CSE at BHU is better than ECE or Mech: If you are considering a specific branch, such as computer science, then it is worth noting that IIT BHU has a particularly strong program in this area. This may be a factor to consider if you are specifically interested in CSE.

In summary, both IIT Guwahati and IIT BHU have their strengths and weaknesses. Ultimately, the choice between the two comes down to your personal priorities and interests. If you prioritize infrastructure and facilities, then IIT Guwahati may be the better option. On the other hand, if placement opportunities and a strong alumni network are your main concerns, then IIT BHU may be a better fit. Whatever your decision, be sure to choose a branch that aligns with your passions and goals.

Which is better for CSE? (IIT Roorkee vs BITS Pilani vs IIT BHU vs IIIT Hyderabad)?

DS
Divya Saraf Posted On : June 15th, 2023

All the aforementioned colleges have well-established CSE departments and are good choices for engineering aspirants. However, personally, I feel IITs are always a safe choice given their low fees and big alumni pool.

IITs attract the best minds from across the country and the opportunities provided are much better than other colleges. BITS Pilani, although a great choice can be a problem for those with financial constraints given its high fees. IIIT Hyderabad has it all from excellent academics to top-notch placements but does not have a very happening college life.

The table below gives the average packages of these institutes for a general analysis.

IIT Roorkee

INR 18.34 LPA

BITS Pilani

INR 30.37 LPA

IIT BHU

-

IIIT Hyderabad

INR 32 LPA

What is better for mathematics and computing, IIT Kanpur vs IIT Kharagpur vs IIT Guwahati vs IIT BHU?

AB

If you are interested in CSE but choosing Mathematics and Computing just for the sake of overlapping courses, then trust me you are making the wrong decision. I have seen many CSE branch seekers taking Mathematics and Computer to land CSE-related jobs. Let me tell you frankly, Mathematics and Computing are no substitutes for Computer Science.

If you want to get a deeper understanding of this, go through the Syllabus of Mathematics. You will find most courses that are theoretical, abstract, and purely mathematical and very few courses related to Computer Science. Mathematics at IITs is not everyone’s cup of tea. It is extremely tough, unlike JEE Math.

However, if you are passionate about Mathematics and want to pursue a research career in it, go for it. The courses might include lengthy proofs of Mathematical Induction and set and relation theory. Discuss the curriculum once with students of Mathematics at IIT and then make the final decision. Usually, the coursework in Mathematics and Computing is the same for all the IIT Branches.

To sum it up, if you are planning to take Mathematics and Computers just for the CSE courses, please make a better decision. My best advice would be to go for CSE in a better engineering college like IIT Hyderabad or Indore.

How is CSE in IIT-BHU?

ST
Shivam Tyagi Posted On : February 14th, 2022
B.Tech Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2022)

CSE in IIT BHU is good. The institute has one of the largest alumni bases for the CSE branch in the country. The placement averages around 100% for CSE students. The domestic average salary package for the branch is 25 LPA. The placement statistics of CSE in IIT BHU are comparable to the top 7 IITs in the country.

The coding culture on campus is quite active. The programming club holds workshops and competitions around the academic year. Since academics aren’t that demanding at IIT BHU, you will get enough time to pursue other technical and co-curricular activities.

For CSE, ragging is completely non-existent. Seniors are quite helpful. You can ask for their help regarding coding or academics.

Do students at the seven older IITs consider IIT (BHU) Varanasi an IIT?

PG
Prajukta Ghose Posted On : June 11th, 2023
Studied at the Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi

Your question is outright demeaning the credibility of one of the oldest technical institutions in India. In its initial years, IIT Kanpur was mentored by IIT BHU. considering this do you still think IIT BHU is inferior to other IITs? It has some of the most successful alumni who are contributing largely to the country and raising the flag of the institute high. It is wrong to negate its legacy of excellent and rich heritage just because of the lack of funds it receives. IIT BHU enjoys a good reputation as a part of the IIT family and only 2 kinds of people don't consider it an IIT. Those who go for a less preferred branch in the top IITs and make such comments because of their inferiority complex or those people who speak gibberish about other institutes just to promote their institutes during counseling.

Either way, rather than paying heed to such comments, believe what your heart says and remember every college has its own flaws so it is you to decide which flaw to overlook.
