Which is better, IIT Dhanbad CSE or Thapar CSE?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : October 11th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

I don’t need to even think twice before saying that IIT Dhanbad CSE is a far better option than Thapar CSE. The former is funded by the central government thereby offering an excellent academic background and opportunities. IIT Dhanbad has a beautiful campus and a vibrant campus life.

Here is the placement scenario of its CSE branch:

Placement Percentage

93.13%

Average Package

INR 27.29 LPA

Salary Range

INR 5 LPA to INR 56 LPA

Number of Recruiters

167

Thapar University, on the other hand, is a semi-government tier 2 that cannot be compared to IIT Dhanbad at all. You should not miss the chance to get the most coveted IIT tag!

How is girls hostel at IIT Dhanbad?

RP
Roohi Pal Posted On : October 12th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad (2020)

IIT Dhanbad has several girls’ hostels.

The newest among them is Rosaline. It is ten storey, and has spacious rooms. Each room accommodates two students at a time. Rosaline is available from second year onwards.

In your first year, you’ll get the Opal Hostel. Opal doesn’t look as grand as Rosaline from the outside, but it has almost the same facilities. Opal has the main canteen area just opposite to it, which is an advantage in itself.

These are the two girls’ hostels that I know about. Rest assured that the girls’ hostels at IIT Dhanbad are well equipped with all the facilities.

What are the problems faced by students in IIT Dhanbad?

AS
Akrit Shaha Posted On : October 11th, 2023
Lives in Dhanbad

IIT Dhanbad is one of the top engineering institutions in India, and as such, its students face a number of challenges. Some of the most common problems include:

  • The students are not provided with 24/7 Internet faculty and even the LAN connections are limited to a fixed time duration.
  • The students of the Earth Science branch are given more preference and they are sent for training expeditions and industrial exposure.
  • IIT Dhanbad has a reputation but only as ISM, its former name. Rarely do the recruiters and students know that ISM has been converted to IIT Dhanbad.
  • There is no inter-departmental and interdepartmental coordination. Academics, institutional administration, and hostel administration behave as if they are three totally unrelated bodies. If you want to report a problem, you will just be referred by someone to somebody else and yes, this vicious cycle continues.
  • The classrooms are not well-equipped and lack facilities like air conditioning and projectors.
  • Most teaching assistants lack experience and knowledge of their fields. Moreover, they have no interest in helping the students.
  • The juniors are dominated by the seniors and a few cases of ragging might also occur.
  • Students are asked to dress according to the college rules which are very illogical.

It's important to keep in mind that these are just general challenges and that individual experiences may vary.

How is IIT Dhanbad as compared to other IITs?

AS
Akrit Shaha Posted On : October 12th, 2023
Lives in Dhanbad

ISM Dhanbad got the IIT tag a few years back.

It offers pretty good placements and research facilities. The campus is well-maintained and of decent size. It is being further improved and even has its own mall now. Other than that, the college has a fully centralized air-conditioned technical library- the largest in Asia.

IIT Dhanbad is at par with the old IITs. It is the best college in India for Earth Science branches (Mining, Mining Machinery, Applied Geology, Mineral, etc). Other branches have also developed in recent years, especially since ISM has received the IIT tag.

This institute has one of the largest alumni networks in the public sector. It has an MHRD-funded faculty development centre, which is one of its kind in the entire country. It is constructing a Central Research facility within its campus, in collaboration with Australian universities, as a result of an MoU signed by PM Modi during his visit to Australia a few years back. Many centrally funded projects are also taking place within the campus.

So IIT Dhanbad is far ahead of new IITs and at par with the old ones.

Does IIT Dhanbad not deserve to be an IIT?

sD
sarang Dhariya Posted On : October 12th, 2023
IIT Dhanbad (2024)

I am a Mechanical student at IIT Dhanbad. I can shed some light on my branch.

Mechanical is a very good branch at IIT Dhanbad. It witnesses very good placements, and the highest package is more than 20 LPA. One of our seniors got placed in Google for 72 LPA CTC, a few years back. Brands like Facebook, Google, and Microsoft visit the college, and many of them give opportunities to non-IT students.

IIT Dhanbad is known for its Mining branch. But as CSE is the craze of today, its cutoffs are quite high.

IIT Dhanbad is a wonderful college, totally deserving of the IIT tag. Don’t be misled by public opinion. IIT Dhanbad has a huge potential. Try to connect with some seniors in the branch of your choice to get a clearer perspective.

What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at IIT Dhanbad?

AS
Ankit Sharma Posted On : October 12th, 2023
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad (2018)

As an alumnus, I have a fair share of experiences and takeaways from my college. Here are some tips for freshers starting their journey at IIT Dhanbad:

  1. You should be proud of having secured admission into one of the top engineering colleges in India. But don’t stop working hard, and chasing even bigger dreams.
  2. Unlike what some seniors will tell you, GPA matters a lot. During placements or for higher studies, GPA plays an important role. Maintain at least 8-8.5 GPA throughout.
  3. You’ll meet some of the finest professors over there. However, some professors will hugely disappoint you. Learn to make peace with the fact that all your teachers won’t be up to your expectations.
  4. Talk to your seniors and juniors. You’ll learn a lot through networking with people.
  5. Join college clubs and societies. They will help shape your personality.
  6. Apart from technical skills, work on your soft skills as well. They’ll be very important during the pre-final and final years. Make use of the free time during your first year to work on your soft skills. If you aren’t a good speaker, join LITC/Toastmasters.
  7. Travel a lot during college years.

These are some tips from my personal experience. Other than that, study well and make the most of your time at IIT Dhanbad.

CSE BITs Hyderabad vs IIT Dhanbad?

BJ
Bharti Jaiswal Posted On : February 25th, 2021
BE Computer Science, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2021)

Well, before answering this question, the heartiest gratitude to all the candidates who have cracked this toughest engineering entrance in India.

The main thing is that you must decide why do you want to join IIT. Is it only for the IIT tag, or you want to follow your passion?

The tagline of IIT is obviously important, but it works only if you are studious towards your dream. Otherwise, it becomes worthless as well as you will ruin the reputation of these institutes, that IIT.

Another important thing to be considered that if you are outstanding in CSE and gets the chance in IIT Dhanbad, then you will be to do more research, over-viewing the facts, like infrastructure and facilities of both of these institutes. However, BITs is generally better, and one of my friends was there for BITSAT 2017; the institute is really awesome.

Additionally, IIT Dhanbad is the old IITs, but it is still an IIT, and it gives the student a great height regarding their future career perspectives. It is properly funded still now and will be better in next year’s. But you should not expect a better life here than BITs Hyderabad. The main thing that should always be remembered is that good institutes always lead to a confident pathway, but you have to go alone in this pathway to fulfill your passion.

Thus, you must choose your branch first; after that, you can move forward.

How do I fill the online anti-ragging affidavit considering it is asking for the number of students in a batch in IIT Dhanbad?

AG
Anumita Ghose Posted On : October 11th, 2023
M.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad

My brother also filed an online anti-ragging affidavit recently. He too was confused because he was asked to fill the batch size although he hadn’t even started attending the classes. He randomly wrote 60 only to realize later that it was just a formality. Students need to focus on other details while filling out this form like their email ID, your name, your father's name, Institute to which they are getting admitted. Once you fill in all these details correctly you will receive a mail consisting of 4 pdf files namely:

  1. Anti-ragging undertaking by the student.
  2. Anti-ragging undertaking by parent/guardian.
  3. Summary of UGC regulations
  4. Summary of the judgment of the Hon. Supreme Court.

All you need is the anti-aging undertaking of your parent or guardian and yours. Get this typed on a non-judicial stamp paper and then get it attested by a notary and submit it to the college.
