Do people in AIIMS-D, JIPMER, AFMC, MAMC, VMMC, LHMC, and UCMS become egoistic?

Medical students from all these colleges are quite decent. They are normal people studying at reputed institutions. I have good friends in MAMC and LHMC.

It is in fact society that puts an extra burden on these people. They are expected to be social all the time. But this expectation is very unrealistic.

It is not right to put labels on these individuals. Their busy schedule should not be confused with egoistic behavior.

How is the life of a female medical student at AFMC, Pune?

SK

AFMC Pune

The life of a female student at AFMC Pune depends on whichever semester you are in. During the initial years, you receive training from your seniors regarding the rules and regulations of the colleges. Moreover, the female population is very less so you might face issues adjusting and adapting to the new system. Specifically for females, the following points should be considered

  • The hostel rules are relatively more strict for girls than boys to ensure minimal opposite-gender interaction.
  • You will be highly cheered on if you are a good athlete as females being involved in sports is a rare scenario.
  • You will be expected to be good culturally meaning all the decorations during Silhouettes, the annual fest will be your responsibility solely. Moreover, your participation in Dance, drama, music, debate, and quizzing activities is highly expected.

However, there is no discrimination whatsoever in terms of academics. This is what the daily schedule of a female medical student at AFMC Pune looks like

  • Morning PT--6 am-7 am
  • Classes—8 am-1 pm and 2 pm-4 pm
  • Lunch—1pm-2pm
  • Sports—5 pm-7 pm
  • Dinner—7 pm-8 pm
  • Joint Sensitisation Program—8 pm-9 pm

So the day of a female student at AFMC Pune typically begins around 6 in the morning and lasts till 9 at night.

In what order would you rank MAMC, KGMU, AFMC. IMS BHU, CMC and Grant Medical College?

KG

Studied at University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi (2015)

According to the reviews online by the students of these colleges, here’s what the ranking seems to be like:

  • KGMU has mostly been ranked among the top 5 institutions in India. It usually maintained its place in rank 2 or 3. This institution is 125 years old with proper educational experience.
  • AFMC is a very disciplined institution with strict rules and codes of conduct, as it has direct affiliation with Armed forces. Though being well reputed, in academics and exposure it might lag behind.
  • MAMC, Grants Medical College (GMC) and IMS BHU are at a similar level.
  • Some students claim MAMC to be slightly better than AFMC.
  • GMC is very popular in and around Maharashtra.
  • IMS-BHU is autonomous; it has the reputation of BHU tagged along which is beneficial.
  • CMC is amongst the oldest medical colleges, but their severe lack of proper facilities in this college and political disturbances have tarnished its reputation.

Therefore it is suggested you either go for KGMU or MAMC, as they will provide you with the required exposure and opportunities.

In what order would you rank MAMC, KGMU, AFMC, IMS-BHU, CMC & Grant Medical College?

I will try to answer your query and provide some additional information.

After the top most colleges- AIIMS, PGI, JIPMER, NIMHANS and SGPGI, these are the colleges you should try for- Medical colleges in Delhi are the best choice. Out of these, MAMC is the most desirable. It is followed by VMMC, LHMC and UCMS. Then come the medical colleges in Mumbai. KEM is a top medical college, followed by Sion and Grant. Colleges of Kerala and Madras are at par with one another. But Madras Medical College is the best among these. AFMC and CMC Vellore are great for patients, but not so much for the students.

Thus, MAMC is a great choice. I do not possess much knowledge of KGMU and IMS BHU, so I haven’t talked about them.

How hard did you prepare for the AFMC Pune? What were your struggles? Did you get it?

One of my friends recently got admission in AFMC Pune and surprisingly enough she claims that she never prepared for her college purposely. In fact, it was only after clearing the cutoff for screening that she decided to actually consider getting admission. The only trick that helped her was that she focused only on preparing for NEET initially and did not worry about the screening. The trust is, that the screening process is rather unpredictable and not much can be prepared in a short span of time. So it’s better to invest your efforts and energy in something that is completely in your control. Once you clear NEET, you can start preparing for screening also.

Hope this helps you!

If someone got selected in JIPMER, AIIMS JODHPUR, BHU or AFMC then which medical college he/she should prefer to join?

All these medical institutes are well-reputed.

Here are a few facts about each college which will help you make your decision-

AIIMS Jodhpur

  1. AIIMS Jodhpur was established in 2021 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GOI
  2. It ranks 16 in the NIRF India Rankings 2022: Medical
  3. AIIMS Jodhpur is newly established in comparison to the other institutions that you have mentioned. Therefore, it should not come as your topmost priority.

AFMC

  1. AFMC is the way to go if you aim to serve in the Indian Armed Forces
  2. If you wish to complete your PG just after your MBBS and have a problem with the bond of AFMC, you should not opt for JIPMER

JIPMER

  1. JIPMER is a central government college
  2. It has a good infrastructure and well-established departments
  3. For students from the northern parts, the location of JIPMER (Pondicherry) might be a negative point in terms of its distance from their hometown

IMS BHU, Varanasi

  1. It is a well-reputed medical college, no less than JIPMER
  2. It is located in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh
  3. If the location of JIPMER does not suit you, you can go for IMS BHU

The individual should, ultimately, choose after thoroughly considering location, fee structure, and personal priorities.

Which is better, CMC Vellore or AFMC? Which college would provide me an assured seat in PG?

CS

Without any second thoughts, choose AFMC over CMC because it ranks higher than most other medical colleges in the country. AFMC provides excellent exposure and opportunities to its students both in terms of academics as well as research. The most appealing aspect of the institute is that it’s a government college so the tuition is almost free of cost. CMC on the other hand is a private medical college that charges a high fee.

Although there isn’t a guarantee of a PG seat in any medical college, I can say that if you have done MBBS in AFMC then your chances of getting a PG seat are very high.

Overall, the top-notch academic ambiance and the highly qualified faculty pool make it an excellent choice and therefore should certainly be considered over CMC Vellore.
