Student at IIT Guwahati

The IIT Guwahati campus is quite safe for students.

The institution does not discriminate against any student and has strict policies in this regard. The campus is guarded for the safety of the students. The campus is totally safe at night, and no incidents have occurred which could cause a concern among students.

I am a female student at IIT Guwahati, and I belong to West Bengal. It is my personal experience that the IIT Guwahati campus is safe for students of all genders and cultural backgrounds.

B.Tech student at IIT Guwahati
I am a second year B.Tech CSE student at IIT Guwahati. The best branch at our institution is CSE, followed by EEE and ECE. Here are the latest placement statistics to prove my point-

IIT Guwahati placement statistics 2023 for B.Tech CSE, EEE and ECE-

Branch Placement Percentage Highest CTC (Department-wise) Average CTC (Department-wise)
Computer Science Engineering 96.30% INR 2.40 CPA INR 42.11 LPA
Electronics and Electrical Engineering 93.55% INR 51.32 LPA INR 26.21 LPA
Electronics and Communication Engineering 91.30%

The CSE and EEE departments perform really well in terms of placements at IIT Guwahati. Thus, these branches are the best if you are interested in grabbing impressive packages after your graduation.

Lives in Guwahati

Some of my friends are currently pursuing their MA in Development Studies from IIT Guwahati. According to them, the curriculum and faculty are both very good. The placements are not regular, but the faculty has good connections to recommend the students for higher studies and jobs at well known establishments. To get admission into this course, you’ll have to undergo an entrance exam followed by a PI round.

Here are the steps to apply for the course-

  1. Visit the official website of IIT Guwahati.
  2. Select the MA course (course that you want to enroll for).
  3. Register and then login to fill out the form.
  4. Fill the form, pay the application fee and submit the form.

The Application portal will open towards the end of March. But make sure to check the official website for regular schedule updates.

Which is the best, IIT Bhubaneswar (EE) or IIT Guwahati for civil?

RT
Rima Tandon Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2021)

Both the choices IIT Bhubaneswar(EE) and IIT Guwahati(Civil Engineering) have their own significance.

Coming to the specifics, the Electrical Engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar is quite good. The placement stats are also better than most of the new IITs. In the year 2019, around 86% of students got placed from the Electrical Engineering branch. The official average package for the batch 2017 as released by the institute was 8.5 LPA, which is more than a decent package for a fresher. A good number of Core companies, software companies and PSU’s hire Electrical Engineers (EE) from IIT Bhubaneswar. The subjects taught in Electrical Engineering, have their applications in day to day life. Hence this subject always has potential in the future.

Coming to Civil Engineering in IIT Guwahati, the civil branch may not be as lucrative as CS, IT branches. But it does offer some great opportunities. In core engineering and the Pvt sector, there are very few companies that offer decent packages. In 2019 around 77% of students got placed in Civil Engineering. The average package for this branch is around 6.6 LPA to 7 LPA. Hindustan Construction Company, L & T, DLF, Tata Projects, Gammon India are some of the major recruiters for Civil Engineering.

If you intend to join public sector, then Civil is the best branch as there is very less competition compared to other branches. You can go for PSU's through GATE or join Engineering Services. Also if you are strictly after govt. jobs, then you can take civil at IIT Guwahati.
