Punjabi University Establishes E-Learning Centre; Yet to Take a Call Over Online Teaching

The Punjabi University authorities are yet to decide whether teachers will be teaching online or from the university's main campus premises. 

Punjab University recently issued a circular stating that the online classes will be conducted from August 1, 2020. However, there is no information shared that whether teachers will teach from home or have to come to the campus.

The authorities have taken an initiative to strengthen the teaching and have established a Centre for E-Learning and Teaching Excellence. The University is all set to reach out to the students, especially in the rural areas.

Punjabi University Registrar, Prof. Yograj said, "We should also be concerned about the students who don't have resources for online teaching. We should devise methods to reach them also. We are trying to come up with plans over this in the near future."

Yograj also mentioned that online classes clearly indicate a message of teaching from home, however, the university will soon issue a clear notification on the same. The guidelines over COVID-19 cannot be ignored and notification in this regard will be issued by Monday probably, said Yograj.

The university will also be hosting a two-day capacity building program on Saturday and Sunday through online mode, where teachers will be trained over online-teaching.

Punjab University VC Prof. B.S. Ghuman inaugurated the two-days Capacity Building Program on July 25, 2020. Prof. Ghuman said in the event that it is important to streamline online teaching activities in such pandemic situations.

"Though socialization and all other cultural activities have come to halt due to pandemic, yet we all are making possible efforts to connect with students. It's our moral duty to take care of educational needs at this critical juncture. We would also have to equip with technological solutions for the post-COVID-19 era, as it would demand a blend of traditional and online teaching", said VC Ghuman.

He also informed that to widen the scope of this Centre, all affiliated colleges will also be linked with it.
