November 9, 2020: Professor Som Nath Sachdeva of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra by the Governor cum Chancellor of Kurukshetra University.
As per Director Public Relations of Kurukshetra University, Prof Brajesh Sawney statement, Professor SN Sachdeva will join as Vice-Chancellor of NIT Kurukshetra from November 10, 2020.
Official notification released by the Haryana Governor, on Monday, November 9, reads ” I as chancellor of KU, hereby appoint Prof Som Nath Sachdeva, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, NIT Kurukshetra, as VC of KU for a period of 3 years or till he attains the age of 68 or whichever is earlier, with effect from the date he assumes charge”.
The notice further stated, terms and conditions for the work duration of Vice-Chancellor would be determined by a competent authority in accordance with State Government.
Prof SN Sachdeva of NIT Kurukshetra, holds 33 years of experience in various fields like administrative, teaching, research, and consultation. He has also worked for more than 12 years as a professor.
As for his educational qualifications, he completed his BSc Engineering (Civil) with honors from REC (Regional Engineering College), Kurukshetra in 1985.
Professor completed his Masters in Engineering ( Highways) from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh in 1987, and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from KU in 2004.
The teachers and students were delighted to hear about the newly appointed VC. The reputed institute they were working without a regular leader for over 7 months, which had in turn affected several key decisions.
On June 19 of this year a 3- member panel was formed to find a regular VC for KU. The panel included VC of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science, Prof Tankeshwar Kumar, and VC of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology, Prof Rajenderkumar Anayath.
Third member VC of Himachal Pradesh University, Prof Sikander Kumar was nominated by the Haryana Governor on July 19, 2020, for the role of vice-chancellor.
Over 70 candidates were scrutinized, while two meetings were held for the selection of vice-chancellor selection.
The first one was held at Hotel Mount View in Chandigarh on August 22 and the second one was held on September 3. After the second meeting, the final list of the candidates was sealed, which was later confirmed by the Director-General of Higher Education (DGHE), Haryana.
