Mumbai University hosts its Annual Convocation held on February 7, 2024, for 2022-23 to award graduation degrees to 1.52 lakh students. The ceremony was graced by Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais, UGC Chairman Professor M Jagadesh Kumar.

New Delhi: Mumbai University hosted its Annual Convocation on February 7, 2024. The ceremony, graced by distinguished personalities including Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais, UGC Chairman Professor M Jagadesh Kumar, and Mumbai University's Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor, celebrated the graduation of approximately 1.52 lakh students.

Among the total graduates of 2022-23 at Mumbai University, 79,741 were female graduates, showcasing a commendable stride towards gender inclusivity in higher education. During his address at the conference, Professor Jagadesh Kumar highlighted the pivotal role of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in shaping the educational landscape.

Professor Jagadesh Kumar emphasized the need for the education system to nurture critical thinkers, risk-takers, leaders, and solution providers, aligning with the aspirations of the current generation. Recognizing Maharashtra's proactive efforts in establishing cluster universities and implementing NEP 2020, he commended the state's commitment to educational reforms.

Highlighting the achievements of the degree holders, Professor Jagadesh Kumar acknowledged the noteworthy surge in women's participation in education. A remarkable 70-80% of the gold medals were awarded to female graduates, symbolising their exceptional accomplishments and unwavering dedication.

In a parallel accolade, Mumbai University conferred 425 doctoral degrees during the conference, marking a significant increase from the previous year's count of 367. This surge in PhD awards demonstrates the resilience of academic pursuits despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.

Notably, in the pandemic year, the number of PhDs awarded had experienced a dip, reaching its lowest point at 211 in 2021-22. The current upswing in doctoral degrees reflects the enduring commitment of Mumbai University to scholarly excellence and research contributions, signaling a positive trajectory in academic achievements.
