IIT Roorkee Partners with CWC to Offer Water Resources and Urban Flood Management

IIT Roorkee has joined hands with CWS with the shared goal of tackling water resource management and addressing the issue of urban flood. Both parties have agreed to work together for the next 5 years to address the issues.

New Delhi: IIT Roorkee and Central Water Commission (CWC) have signed two MoUs to tackle issues like water resources management and urban flood. Kushvinder Vohra, Chairman of CWC, and Professor Kamal Kishore Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee signed the agreement. 

As a part of this collaboration, the key initiatives to tackle this rising issue include assessing irrigation efficiency, conducting comprehensive water accounting studies and mapping cropped areas under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana.

The first MoU focuses on enhancing water resources management while the second MoU focuses on urban flooding, with a focus on forecasting, numerical flood inundation, hazard mapping and urban flood risk management.

IIT Roorkee and CWC To Offer Certification Course

This partnership of IIT Roorkee & CWC will offer a certificate course for water auditors and evaluate the impact of climate change on water resources. The program will boost agricultural productivity, aligning with government objectives. Both parties have agreed to work together for the next 5 years to address the seriousness of the issue.

Professor Ashish Pandey, Bharat Singh Chair Professor for Water Resources said, “The expertise of IIT Roorkee in water resources management, combined with the practical insights of the CWC, will drive innovation in irrigation efficiency, water accounting and urban flood forecasting. This partnership is poised to foster a culture of innovation that promotes efficient water resources management.”
