The School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (SMME) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi has announced the first round of admissions for its M.Tech. (by Research), M.Tech (Research) + Ph.D (Dual Degree), and Ph.D programs. These courses are offered across a variety of disciplines and interdisciplinary areas, with options for Regular Full-Time, Self-Sponsored, and Part-Time modes.

Aspirants can apply through the institute’s Samarth Portal (iitmandiadm.samarth.edu.in) by Nov 8, 2024 till 5 PM. Candidates belonging to reserved categories (OBC-NCL, SC, ST, or EWS) can also apply against vacant seats.

Applications must be submitted via the Samarth application portal of the institute at iitmandiadm.samarth.edu.in. The application fee is tabulated below:

IIT Mandi M.Tech (Research), MTech (Research) + PhD (Dual Degree) and Ph.D Eligibility Criteria

Listed below are the eligibility criteria for IIT Mandi Admission to M.Tech (Research), MTech (Research) + PhD (Dual Degree) and Ph.D courses. Candidates meeting the eligibility will be selected for the course and called for an interview which will be conducted in hybrid mode (online and offline):

• M.Tech (Research):
  • Bachelor's in Engineering/Technology or Master's degree in Science (or allied subjects) with a valid GATE score OR
  • B.Tech. /B.E./B.S. (or equivalent) degree from CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical Institute) / any of the top 100 institutes according to NIRF ranking (overall category) at the time of application / any Himachal Pradesh Govt. institution or universities with CGPA/CPI of at least 7.5 (on a scale of 10) or equivalent.
• Dual Degree (M.Tech. + Ph.D.):
  • Bachelor's in Engineering/Technology or Master's degree in Science (or allied subjects) with a valid GATE score OR
  • B.Tech. /B.E./B.S. (or equivalent) degree from CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical Institute) / any of the top 100 institutes according to NIRF ranking (overall category) at the time of application / any Himachal Pradesh Govt. institution or universities with CGPA/CPI of at least 8.0 (on a scale of 10) or equivalent.
• Ph.D. Programs:
  • Master's degree in Science/Engineering/Technology (or allied subjects) with a valid GATE score OR
  • Candidates holding a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology with a valid GATE score, or a Master's degree in Science with a GATE score or with 2 or more years of experience in an R&D organization with a proven research record.
  • B.Tech. /B.E./B.S. (or equivalent) degree from CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical Institute) / any of the top 100 institutes according to NIRF ranking (overall category) at the time of application / any Himachal Pradesh Govt. institution or universities with CGPA/CPI of at least 7.5 (on a scale of 10) or equivalent.

Note: Candidates applying under self-sponsored and part-time modes are exempt from GATE/National Test score requirements, though they will not receive scholarships during their studies.
