IIT Guwahati to Transform Education Landscape of Assam; Check Details Here

New Delhi: Under the Aegis of the Ministry of Education Samagra Siksha Assam (SSA) program, IIT Guwahati is going to transform the education landscape of Assam by assisting government bodies and startups in identifying and addressing the challenges faced by the education sector. 

IIT Guwahati conducted a Transforming Education in School Meet on September 8, 2023. Dr Ranoj Pegu, Minister of Education, Government of Assam, graced the event as Chief guest, accompanied by Dr Om Prakash, Mission Director of SSA and Prof. Parameswar K Iyer, Officiating Director of IIT Guwahati, also joined as the Chief Guest of the event.

The event aimed at coming up with innovative ideas developed by the students of state-governed schools under the Tinkering Lab Program of Samagra Shiksha Assam. 230 students from 10 government and 15 private schools participated in the event, out of which 230 students made their own robots for this event.

In addition to this, the event aimed to recognise the achievements of the education department in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and highlight 21st-century skills programs in schools.

IIT Guwahati’s Transforming Education Initiative

Under the collaboration, the IIT Guwahati has carried out several activities, including the following: 

  • Residential teacher’s training program for 500+ school teachers.
  • Quiz competition, maths, and science olympiad for 10,000+ students. 
  • Science meet conducted by 60+ research scholars and MTech students from IIT Guwahati in 33 districts of Assam.

Under the AROHAN scheme, IIT Guwahati is going to host meritorious students and their guide teachers from districts of Assam, namely Nagaon, Hojai, Udalgiri, Darrang, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Jorhat, Dima Hasao, Baksa, and W.K. Anglong. 

IIT Guwahati will host around 1,200 students in the first phase of 2023. These students will interact with the faculty of IIT Guwahati and visit the institutional facilities at IIT Guwahati. The Office of Outreach Education Program(OEP) will host the event.
