News Title: Researchers at IIT Guwahati have created an affordable wearable gadget that can record motion signals using gel technology. This new technology gives medical staff members priceless insights into patients' circumstances so that the right actions can be taken.
As per IIT Guwahati, the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) and the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), have provided funding for this study in the form of a Core Research Grant (CRG). This is a major advancement in the field of wearable electronics and holds the promise of a time when flexible sensors will be indispensable in the medical field and beyond.
A research group at IIT Guwahati led by Professor Debapratim Das, Department of Chemistry, has created the organohydrogel. This material has remarkable characteristics that include strong mechanical strength and adhesion, self-healing, anti-freezing, extreme stretchability, and conductivity.
These attributes are retained even after extended exposure to -20°C. When applied to the bodies of patients or those in comparable situations, the Organic Hydrogel sensor can detect minute movements over an extended period using a wireless device and a smartphone.
The esteemed journal ACS Applied Material and Interfaces has published the study’s conclusions. The co-authors are Prof. Debapratim Das, and Ms. Ritvika Kushwaha, Pof. Biman B. Mandal, Mr. Souradeep Dey, and Ms. Kanika Gupta.
