IIT Guwahati Boasts a Diverse Campus with Students from 28 States, UTs and 8 Countries

New Delhi: As per the statement made by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, the institute has boosted students and resident scholars from over 28 states and union territories of the country and 8 countries in this academic year.

As per IIT Guwahati, “Currently, students, faculty, and other residents of IIT Guwahati include residents of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh”.

Students have also joined from Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttaranchal, and West Bengal as well as countries like Japan, Nepal, Bhutan, Nigeria, Sudan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Ethiopia and others.

Director Parameswar K Iyer Spoke about linguistic and cultural diversity on campus and said that IIT Guwahati encourages the tapestry of cultural and lingual diversity thereby helping the country’s goal of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” achieved at a fast pace.

Sanasam Ranbir Singh, Head of the Centre for Linguistic Science and Technology, IIT Guwahati, said that at the Centre for Linguistic Science and Technology, students are engaged in various research activities that are needed to develop technologies for the indigenous languages in India.

He added that the center is also creating new projects on developing language technologies and digital preservation of northeast India's indigenous languages, dialects, heritages, and cultures.

IIT Guwahati aims to nurture students with extraordinary thoughts, creating and disseminating knowledge for societal development across language barriers. IIT Guwahati celebrates Matribhasha Diwas (World Mother Tongue Day) each year on February 21 to promote language diversity and culture on the campus,
