Four Memorandums of Agreement were signed by IIT Guwahati with Dalhousie University in Canada and Gifu University in Goa. The MoAs were signed to foster better research and more intercultural academic exchanges between the participating universities

IIT Guwahati Begins Collaboration with Gifu University Japan and Dalhousie University Canada

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati has signed four Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Dalhousie University, Canada, and Gifu University, Japan on March 3, 2024

The MoA with Dalhousie University was signed by Prof. P. Balakrishnan from Dalhousie University and Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, the Officiating Director of IIT Guwahati. The President of Gifu University, Prof. Kazuhiro Yoshida, formally endorsed all three MoAs signed between IIT Guwahati and Gifu University.

The MoAs are aimed towards better academic excellence and more excellent and well-rounded research. The MoAs have been signed for 5 years’ duration and may be extended in the future. The signing occurred during the event “Japan-NER Bioeconomic Technology Cooperation Symposium 2024” (JNBTCS-2024).

What are the MoAs All About?

The MoA signed with Dalhousie University entails the establishment of a Joint Doctoral Program. The program will facilitate the exchange of students and faculty between the two institutes. The supervision of the PhD program will also be shared by both institutes. 

The MoAs with Gifu University, were for a Joint PhD Program, a Joint Master’s Degree Program, and a Glocal Expert Program.

  • The three year-long Joint PhD course entails a collaborative course program and mentorship from both universities. 
  • The Joint M.Tech in Food Science and Technology will last for two years. The program will have a course made jointly by both institutes, alongside data sharing across the institutions.
  • The Glocal Expert Program will be a joint certificate program under the Inter-University Exchange Project (IUEP). The program will ensure a student exchange and cross-cultural learning for students from both varsities.

The Officiating Director of IIT Guwahati, Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, said during the event, “IIT Guwahati is committed to supporting students' academic and personal growth through these programs. The primary goal is for enriching the educational experience of students and such cross-cultural opportunities will enable them to achieve that…the collaborations aim to provide students with diverse learning experiences and opportunities for growth, fostering a holistic educational environment at IIT Guwahati.”
