IIT Bombay Introduces Scholarships for UG, PG Students; Check Details Here

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT B) has launched scholarships for UG, PG Students for the academic session 2024-25. The aim of the scholarships is to support both postgraduate and undergraduate students, ensuring financial barriers do not hinder their academic pursuits. 

Some of the scholarships take the form of reduced college costs, while others are paid directly into the student's bank accounts. You must keep in mind that the ability to keep your assistantship, fellowship, or scholarship will depend on your attendance each month.

What are the Scholarships Available for UG Students?

1. NBHM (National Board of Higher Mathematics) (M.Sc)- 

The Board will provide a sum of Rs 6,000 per month. and the selection of the candidate will be through NBHM directly.

2. Institute Scholarship- 

Merit­ cum­ Means (MCM): The scholarship is awarded to a maximum of 25 per cent of the sanctioned intake of undergraduate students. For dual degrees, it is available only up to the fourth year. The academic merit as well as means will be taken into account to determine eligibility. 

Merit criterion: For new entrants of BTech, dual degree (BTech + MTech), BS their JEE AIR, and BDes their UCEED Rank, will be the criterion. 

Facilities of Free Messing: All SC / ST students are exempted from the payment of tuition fees. The facilities of free messing will be granted to eligible SC / ST students of BTech, dual degree (BTech + MTech), BS and BDes programmes. For dual degree students, it is available only up to 4 year.

3. Named Private Scholarship- 

Merit Criterion: For new entrants of BTech, dual degree (BTech + MTech), BS their JEE AIR and BDes, their UCEED Rank, will be the criterion. The criterion will be their academic performance during the preceding academic year in subsequent years.

4. National Scholarships (All States)

The national scholarships are awarded to students from the respective states. The applications are forwarded through IIT. These scholarships are awarded or renewed every year for which students have to submit their progress report at the beginning of every academic year.

5. National Talent Search Scholarship (NTS)

Those who are awarded the NTS scholarship during their 10 + 2 are continued during the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. For renewal of the same, students have to submit the forms issued by the NCERT to the academic section at the beginning of each academic year.

What are the Private Scholarships Available for PG Students?

1. SJM School of Management Endowment (PhD)

Through the scholarship, students can receive Rs 28,000 per month for the first two years with the provision of enhancement to Rs 31,000 per month. The scholarships will be awarded on the academic performance which will be determined based on CPI / progress seminar performance. The Scholarships are renewable every year. 

2. IITB Monash (PhD)

For first two years an amount of Rs 35,000 per month will be sanctioned which will become Rs 39,000 for the next 3 years of the course duration. 

3. EATON Technologies Pvt. Ltd.(PhD)

A successful candidate will get Rs 30,000 per month for the first two years, for the next two years Rs 35,000 per month plus Rs 1,50000 for attending one national/international conference period for a maximum of four years under this private scholarship. 

4. SERB (Purdue Visiting Doctoral) (for 12 months) (PhD)

USD 2,000 per month plus a time contingency grant of Rs 60,000 plus onward journey fair is sanctioned under the scholarship

5. Forbes Marshall (MTech)

Rs 20,000 per month plus reimbursement of tuition fees paid by students every semester, along with contingencies of Rs 15,000 during the course towards TA/DA, report preparation, etc. tuition fee Rs 5,000 per semester

6. Dr. Gargi Vishnoi Memorial Scholarship (Only for the Biosciences and Bioengineering Department) (MTech)

A sum of Rs 2,000 per month along with TA will be sanctioned. 

What are the Government Scholarships Available for PG Students?

1. NBHM (National Board of Higher Mathematics)

The Board will give a sum of Rs 31,000 per month after 2 years, Rs 35,000, contingency grant Rs 20,000 per annum in the PG scholarship. 

2. DBT-JRF, DBT-SRF (Department of Biotechnology Jr. Research Fellowship)

The department will give Rs 31,000 per month first 2 years Rs 35,000 per month for the next 3 years, plus a contingency allowance of Rs 30,000 per annum. The person will be also entitled to HRA.

3. DST-INSPIRE

The scholarship is Rs 31,000 per month for MSc / BE / BTech /ME / MTech students for 2 years (JRF), for the next 3 years Rs 35,000 per month plus a contingency Rs 20,000 per year.

4. ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research)

The Council will give Rs 31,000 per month for the first two years, Rs 35,000 per month next three years plus a contingency, Rs 20,000 per year.

• DAE (DGFS) (BRNS) (Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences)

The Board will sanction Rs 35,000 per month, along with reimbursement of tuition fees paid by students every semester, and an education material allowance of Rs 5000 (one-time payment during the entire programmes). Additionally, a contingency expenditure of Rs 25,000 to each student, and a book allowance of Rs 10,000 to the shortlisted students.

• AERB (Atomic Energy Regulatory Board)

The Board will provide financial assistance of Rs 35,000 per month, reimbursement of total fees paid by the students at the time of admission (one-time payment), reimbursement of tuition fee every semester, and a book allowance Rs 5000 once during the course.

7. MERC (Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission)

The Commission will aid the student with Rs 8,000 per month, tuition fees Rs 5,000 per semester, TA/DA, report preparation, a contingency during Rs 15,000 ,15 per cent of the total for consumables, and miscellaneous, and contingency along with DDF.

8. MPCB (Maharashtra Pollution Control Board)

The Board will provide Rs 8,000 per month.

9. Master of Science Institute Scholarship

Merit cum means: It is awarded to a maximum of 25 per cent of sanctioned intake of students. For new entrants of MSc, their JAM rank will be the criterion.

Facilities of Free Messing: All SC / ST students are exempted from the payment of tuition fees. The facilities of free messing will be granted to eligible SC / ST students of the MSc programmes. 

M.Sc- Ph.D. (Dual Degree): For the first four semesters a financial assistance Rs 6,000 per month, fifth to eighth Semester Rs 37,000 per month, and ninth to fourteenth semester Rs 42,000 per month will be given to the shortlisted candidates.

10. Named Private Scholarships

Merit criterion: For new entrants of M.Sc. their JAM Rank will be the criterion. The criterion will be their academic performance during the preceding academic year in subsequent years.

You must note that financial eligibility for the above scholarships are same. The parental income is the basis for the ‘means’ criterion. At present, students whose parent’s annual gross income from all sources for the previous financial year does not exceed Rs 5 lakh are eligible to apply for merit ­cum­ means. When a student applies for the scholarship, a copy of the income certificate issued by the revenue officer, not below the rank of Tehsildar or the income tax return (ITR) of parents for the preceding year is required to be submitted with the application for the scholarship every year.
