40% of the students at IIT BHU are still waiting to get placed in top companies in the current placement season 2023-24. This is the highest number of students who did not get hired in the last three years.
New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) Varanasi or IIT BHU has revealed that 40 percent of its students have not yet secured placements in the ongoing placement season of 2023-24, resulting in a total count of 692 students.
As of May 1, Dheeraj Singh, Founder of the Global IIT Alumni Support Group, has revealed that out of 1,735 students who registered for IIT BHU placements, 1,043 have secured job offers. The number of unplaced students is the highest recorded in 3 years, with 24% (336) and 19% (250) in 2023 and 2022 respectively.
However, it's important to highlight that students unable to secure placements are categorised as "Not Placed/Higher Studies", the IIT BHU shared the RTI data.
IIT BHU Placement Records Significant Increase in Median Salary
Despite the average salary remaining stable over the past three years, at 22.85 lakh per annum (LPA) in 2024, 22.68 LPA in 2023, and 23.23 LPA in 2022, there has been a significant increase in the median salary.
Currently, the median salary has increased to INR 20 LPA, a significant rise from 12 LPA in 2023, while it stood at INR 20.40 LPA in 2022.
IIT BHU, like many other IITs, is facing challenges in securing placements this season, as recruiters are turning cautious in their hiring strategies. The placement officers have raised concerns about companies hiring fewer candidates and offering lower salaries compared to the previous year, making them less unattractive to students.
