IARI commemorated its 62nd Convocation week from February 4 to February 9, 2024. Students pursuing MS, MTech, and PhD degrees presented their research findings on February 4 and 5, 2024.
New Delhi: The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi celebrated its 62nd convocation ceremony on February 09, 2024. The gathering was held at the Bharat Rathna C Subramaniam Hall of the National Agricultural Science Complex (NASC).
President Droupadi Murmu attended the event as Chief Guest of the Ceremony and Arjun Munda, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister along with Kailash Chaudhary, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers joined as Guest of Honour.
During the IARI 62nd Convocation, more than 540 students including 5 foreign students, across 26 disciplines in agricultural sciences received their degrees. AK Singh Vice Chancellor and Director of IARI, Anupama Singh, Director and IARI Dean; and IARI Joint Directors held a press conference on the evening of convocation where they highlighted the achievement of IARI for the academic year 2023-24.
Key Highlights of IARI 62nd Convocation
IARI, widely known as Pusa Institute, commemorated its 62nd convocation week from February 4 to February 9, 2024. Students pursuing MS, MTech, and PhD degrees presented their research findings on February 4 and 5, 2024.
Professors from many institutions gave speeches on noteworthy academic accomplishments for 2023 on February 6 and 7. On February 7, the 23rd Sukumar Basu Memorial Award laureate gave a special lecture in conjunction with the 420th Meeting of the Academic Council, IARI.
On February 8, Director General of ICAR and Secretary of Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Himanshu Pathak gave the 54th Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Lecture.
Speaking on this occasion, Pathak said, “We have expanded the reach of the institute and taken it to other parts of the nation. Earlier the students were supposed to come here for their masters course and research programmes. We have started the UG agricultural course from the academic year 2023-24.
He also added, “IARI under the umbrella of an IARI mega university has started admissions in different ICAR institutes and crested 16 hubs at Bengaluru, Cuttack, Jharkhand, Assam, Nagpur, Ranchi, Patna, Baramati, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Karnal, Raipur, and Shillong.”
According to IARI Director Singh, about 1,200 students were admitted to the institute during the academic year 2023-24. Of these, 398 students were accepted into the undergraduate course, 298 students were accepted into the MSc and MTech programmes, and 408 students were accepted into the PhD programme, which spans 26 fields.
“We will admit the same number of students in the upcoming academic session 2024-25 since we are enhancing the infrastructure and amenities for students,” Singh declared.
Further Singh mentioned that “the international 500-room boy hostel ‘Madhumas’ equipped with modern amenities was inaugurated on July 3, 2023, and agriculture minister Munda inaugurated the 500-room Girls Hostel ‘Phalguni’ on January 31, 2024.”
