Delhi L-G Approves Admission to Vacant Seats at GGSIPU, Check Details Here

New Delhi: Lieutenant-governor (L-G) VK Saxena has permitted the admission of students based on an aggregate score of CUET for the vacant seats after exhausting the complete merit list of CLAT (UG) in the 2023-24 academic session of the five-year integrated law programs of GGSIPU, Said Raj Niwas officials on Tuesday.

It is the Delhi government's initiative to prevent any vacancy in private colleges of GGSIPU. A source said, "Many seats were left vacant as only CLAT scores were considered. This is why it was decided that any remaining vacancies would be filled via CUET scores. This is being done for the first time by any university."

In a file addressed to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the lieutenant governor expressed that his approval for such admission has been sought after the commencement of academic session 2023-24, thereby causing unnecessary harassment to aspiring students of these much sought-after professional programs, officials said. Sources of the Delhi government said the LG's comments on the admission to vacant seats were inappropriate.

The Delhi government has allowed CUET score to be considered as the admission criteria, so all vacancies are filled, the source stressed. The source said it is not for LG to try and take credit for efforts made by an elected government. As a constitutional head, the LG should not indulge in such practices of purloins of the credits.”

According to Raj Niwas officials, the LG has approved the admission of students based on an aggregate score of CUET in three subjects (English, Legal Studies, and General Test) and remaining seats after exhausting the complete merit list of CLAT (UG)

Raj Niwas officials said the LG approved the admission procedure considering the students' extensive course interests. Still, they said that the proposal for regulating admission in BA LLB or BBA LLB program in GGSIPU for the academic session 2023-24 was submitted in September, "causing inordinate delay in filling up the vacant seats in these courses."
