As per the latest updates, Chandigarh University also planned to design a multipurpose nano- satellite within a time period of 10-12 months which will be launched by ISRO. Satnam Singh Sandhu, the University Chancellor said that INR 1 Crore will be spent on designing the satellite for which the training of students has already begun.
He further added, "The establishment of a ground control station for the satellite project is already underway. The students would undergo training under the guidance of former Indian and international space scientists, including scientists from ISRO.”
While delivering his inaugural address, Dr YS Rajan said, "Scientists from North India like Kalpana Chawla, Dr Satish Dhawan has made a great contribution in the field of Space Technology and Exploration and therefore it is important to educate the young & budding engineers from the Northern part of India about the rich legacy that they have in the field."
Dr MyIswany Annadurai also known as the Moon Man of India while delivering keynote address said, "Russia and USA have made a lead for the past many decades in space research and space exploration and although India entered into the field much later yet has carved out a special identity in the International space program."
He further said, “The success of Mangalyaan and Chandrayan-1 missions have significantly positioned India among the top countries that have a great rate of success in launching satellites and carrying out experimental projects. The Indian space foundation is so strong that many missions of Russia and other Top nations took 5-6 attempts, but India has been successful in just one attempt without any International help in the Mangalyaan mission."
The success of the Indian Space Research Program and ISRO has also opened new economic opportunities that can significantly contribute to the GDP of the country, Dr Annadurai added.
India has already helped countries like U.A.E, Singapore, France, Spain and other countries to launch their satellites which will be helpful for them in the Field of Communication, Navigation and other programs also.
