The Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the Central University of Punjab (CUP) has arranged an invited talk on the “Recent Advances in Algebra” under the assistance of Professor Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor of the University.

The Head of the Department (HOD) of Mathematics and Statistics of CUP, Professor Gauree Shankar welcomed the guests and participants of the program and gave an introduction to the theme of the program.

Dr. Ashok K Pathak introduced the keynote speaker of the event. Professor R K Sharma, Chair Professor, Department of Mathematics of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi was the keynote speaker of the event.

Professor R K Sharma stated in his keynote speech that from the time we learn to speak till the end of our life, mathematics is involved. Algebra is a part of mathematics that deals with symbols used to represent numbers and the rules for managing those symbols. 

The various branches of Algebra and how it is useful in our everyday life to calculate distance, the perimeter of an area, the volume of an object, cost eliminate, time relationship was discussed by Dr. Pathak.

He discussed the applicability of Algebra into various professionals and asserted that algebra is used by Actuaries, Computer Programmers, Engineers, Air Traffic Controllers, Market Research Analyst, Architects, Economist, Geologist, Electricians among other professionals.

Cryptography is widely used in mobile calling, messaging, secure network communications, signal processing, authentication, digital signature, time stamping, digital money transfer, and other works and Algebra is applicable in that field, highlighted Dr. Pathak.

Youngsters should develop specialized skills in algebra to enhance their career path, Dr. Pathak motivated through his keynote speech. After the lecture session, an interactive session was held where the participants asked their queries to the invited speakers of the event organized at CUP. 

Dr. Harmanpreet Singh Kapoor delivered the vote of thanks at the end of the program and thanked the faculty members of CUP, research scholars and participants of the events who took part in the program through online mode.
