Ms. Silliya Stanly is an Assistant Professor at Seth Ram Bahadur Singh Gujarati College in Kochi, Kerala. She earned her BBA from SRBS Gujarati College, passed with Distinction and was a college topper of batch 2012. Thereafter, she completed her master’s degree in MBA in Finance and HR from Bharata Mata Institute of Management, THRIKKAKARA. Currently, she is also pursuing her PhD in management studies from the Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies, VISTAS, Pallavaram, Chennai. Ms. Stanly has dedicated herself to shaping the minds of young students and imparting knowledge in Management Studies.

Being an Assistant Professor of the Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

Being a teacher, my first and foremost aim is to foster and guide the students in enhancing their knowledge. Acting as their teacher and mentor to support them in their personal as well as academic matters. I design the syllabus and materials to make learning easy, along with guiding students in doing research projects. I try to always build a positive learning environment that encourages participation from the student's side.


How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

To build positive relations on campus, I make it a point to treat everyone with respect. Being an approachable person and offering support to those who need it is vital in this regard. Due to our efforts, we have great teamwork and coordination among us and clear-cut communication. All of them are always supporting each other in their professional growth.


How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?

We provide seminars and workshops for our students and teachers in relevant fields by experts. Soft skills training in industry relevant skills is done twice a semester by experts. Proper feedback is taken from students at the end of semesters to identify areas of improvement. An industrial visit is done once a year to help our students get practical insights.

What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department or How does your department prepare students for Higher education?

After completing the undergraduate programs we provide postgraduate courses in our college for our students as well. Moreover, we also provide guidance on new relevant courses in the market for knowledge acquisition for the students. Job opportunities and vacancies are notified timely through our placement group by the placement officer to interested students.


How does the department/ college/University enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them according to the industry standards? 

To enhance the skills of the faculty members, we are encouraged to attend faculty development programs, training programs, conferences and workshops regularly. Many of our faculty members are also actively engaged in research. This helps them keep themselves updated on their fields and make their classes more engaging.


What are the interventions and approaches you bring in apart from the curriculum to train/teach the students?

We ensure that our curriculum matches with industry practices. Four-year degree programs have been established this year. We are also providing additional courses in fields of study that match with our students' fields of interest.
