She has more than 22 years of Teaching experience and 20 years of Research experience. She has held various administrative roles such as Head of the Department (Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Analysis) for 15 years, NBA coordinator, Associate Director for Research since 2 years and Member secretary In Institutional Ethics committee, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, VISTAS from 2017.

She has been into teaching Pharmaceutical Chemistry for the past 22 years and also received the prestigious Best Teacher Award from The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, Guindy, Chennai in the year 2012. She has guided more than 50 Postgraduate as well as Pharm.D dissertations and 08 Ph.D. Candidates were awarded under her guidance. As a Researcher, she has published her research works in various reputed journals with Impact factors 15.08 with 152 Scopus indexed journals. She has also received a Research Grant from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) Government of India worth Rs.27 lakhs and utilized Vels seed grant for her research. She has received various awards for her Research potential such as Indira Vasudevan award from the Indian Association of Bio-Medical scientists (IABMS) in 2018..

As an administrator, she has brought several reforms to the institution such as the adoption of Novel modalities in Teaching Learning and also carried out several extension activities. As a credit, she has received an Appreciation certificate from the District Collector, Chennai - Thiru A.Shanmuga Sundaram IAS for the promotion of blood donation and conduct of blood donation camps in the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS) in Association with ESI HOSPITAL, Ayanavaram for the year 2017, during the National Volunteering Blood donor day 18.10.2018, held at District Collector Office, Chennai.

She has initiated and signed nearly 08 MoU with various Pharmaceutical Industries in Tamilnadu.

She has been the NBA Co-ordinator for UG Pharmacy, well expertise in NAAC, UGC 12 B procedures as well as PCI, AICTE, AISHE, ARIIA and NIRF protocols as well. Also, she has organized various international and National conferences as convenor as well as co-convenor. She does her best services in holding up the Vision of the University at its highest level and strive to achieve the best for the School of Pharmaceutical sciences and its stakeholders.

What is the latest program that you are offering in your Vels University/ Pharmacy dept.?

We are offering a Master of Pharmacy in Pharmaceutical Analysis. It is 2 years (4-semester) Master’s Degree Course. It is an in-depth program that seeks to make students ready for a wonderful career in the Pharmaceutical industry.

What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt for?

The program provides in-depth knowledge about all the stages of drug development. Students can gain valuable research experience from this program. It will also provide good employment opportunities to students as this domain has a huge demand in the Pharmaceutical industry.

This course will give you a strong background in Analytical Techniques used in Pharma Industry. Along with theoretical knowledge, we also provide students with experiential learning modules that allow them to learn industry practices by practicing them. We are implementing Analytical Method Development that gives the students an edge over their counterparts. Evaluation and interpretation of data, as well as the development of research skills, is also being taught to make students ready for starting a career right after they are done with the course.

Since the beginning of the course, we teach students the core concepts of design, development, and quality control using analytical methods. How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?

We believe in self-development and train the faculty accordingly. The teaching staff regularly attends and conduct seminars as well as national and international conferences so that they are aware of the current developments in the pharmaceutical world. Our teachers also attend faculty development programs as well as workshops to constantly improve their technical as well as pedagogical skills. 

How do you tend to build an industry connection with this program? 

We focus heavily on building industry connections with the program to help students. We conduct regular Industrial visits each semester that ensures the enhancement of their skill set in the area of their expertise. There is also mandatory Industrial training in the 3rd & 4th semesters with the sole purpose of delivering on-the-field training and practical experience as they will help them immensely in their future careers. 

What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program?

Students are expected to work on several in-depth projects during the program to develop a thorough understanding of the underlying concepts. Some of the important projects include; the development and validation of UV/HPLC/GC-MS/LC-MS and their formulation; active Pharmaceutical ingredients, and the determination of enantiomers; quantification of preservatives biological samples, etc.
