Dr. S. Manoharan is the Principal of Nandha Arts and Science College. He has 28 Years of teaching experience in both UG and PG level. He received his Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in Computer Science (2015) in the field of Image Processing. He has published 22 articles in the reputed International Journals. His Research area includes Image Processing, Artificial Intelligence & Deep Learning, Software Engineering. He is also a member of many academic bodies and Reviewer for many international Journals.

What are some plans that you are currently (or will be) designing for students?

Our plans include preparing the students to attend various skill based training like Hackathon, motivating the students to crack UPSC, TNPSC and BANK exams, developing a good learning environment for the students that will be more than just a classroom, providing state-of-the-art technology in all aspects to meet the future challenges, understand and ensure for providing quality based job oriented courses, and planning to enrich the extra-curricular activities.

What do you think should be the College’s top priority over the next ten years?

Our priority must be to give topmost priority to get Autonomous status to the Institution (within two years), to obtain highest grade in NAAC, to improve the infrastructure facilities including ICT enabled classrooms, to sign MOU with foreign Universities for student exchange programs, to establish Industry-Institute linkages programmes, and to plan to Centre with potential for excellence.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated to make it befitting for the students?

We review the curriculum through the Curriculum Development Cell (CDC) periodically and give recommendations to the University Board of Studies for proper action to make necessary changes in the curriculum. We also conduct periodical meetings with Industry experts to ensure the curriculum is up-to-date to meet the industry needs. We plan to introduce add-on and skill based short-term courses to students to meet the current trends, and we develop Outcome-Based Education with mapping PSO and CO.

How does your college prepare students for placements?

The college prepares students by providing career counseling, Aptitude and Verbal Training for pre final year students and the Technical Training for final year students, providing company specific training at the time of their interview. We also create various opportunities for students by bringing companies.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real world challenges?

The Fine Arts Club of the Institution will identify the student’s skills like Drawing, Essay Writing, etc., and prepare them to participate in the various college’s events. The Fine Arts Club is giving proper training to the students to enrich their skills. Every year, The Fine Arts Club conducts inter-collegiate meets and distributes prizes and certificates to the winners. Periodically, Workshop, hands-on-training are conducted related to extracurricular activities

When you came to college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

The vision of the college as enshrined by the founders is to be a leading institution of Excellence in Higher Education. The college aims at providing holistic, quality education to the aspiring youth and the needy. The spotlight is especially on the ones from the less privileged sections of the society.

How does the department/ college enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them according to the industry standards? 

We prepare our faculty through the Faculty Development Programme and by motivating them to attend Seminars, Conferences and workshops. 

What do you see as the college’s greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?

Our strengths are our infrastructure and learning environment, dedicated staff members, good research work, and well disciplined students.
