What is the program that you are offering in your department which will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?

Our department offers programs that are designed to make students stand out from their peers. Our students can enrol for our credit-based NPTEL (National Program on Technical Enhanced Learning) program. We also have collaborations with CIPET, ASKY Instruments and Excellent Services to provide specialized training. Under these offerings, students can learn not only the theory but also acquire the necessary practical application-based skills.

What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt?

Our program has a digital learning facility that can be used remotely from the comfort of home. For the practical lab sessions, students need to be present in person but we have a virtual practical facility where one can learn the same skills but online. We have taken care to build an eco-friendly environment on the campus. When not studying, students take part in our excellent sports facilities and participate in student clubs. The best part about the program is our team of highly qualified and experienced faculties.

Our student-centred learning facility has WIFI 24 hours where explanations are done through models for better interaction between theory and experiments.

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

Our program ensures that our students are well-prepared for campus placements. They take classes and training sessions on verbal and non-verbal reasoning and soft skills. Our team teaches them how to answer technical questions, participate in group discussions and how to ace the personal interview round. We focus on overall development of students through extracurricular activities such as sports and cultural activities with regular classes.

How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?

My faculty members interact with students live during the lecture classes in the classroom and also digitally through online teaching mode. The practical sessions take place in the laboratories in groups of four students. Smaller groups help students to learn the subject matter easily and work collaboratively with their classmates. We also share the recorded lectures and experiments with the students. They can view them as many times as needed for clarification of their doubts.

What are some valuable insights into the program that you are offering at your department?

The teaching methodology at the mechanical department and the college entirely is done on the basis of inculcating practical experience. We offer career-centred assignments and real-world case studies and projects that give students a taste of what they can expect during their careers. This applied approach prepares students for their careers by offering them a hands-on way of learning skills as per industrial requirements and demands.

Do you have any extracurricular activities to enhance the skills of the students?

Regional College offers numerous extracurricular options for students. We organize seminars, conferences with experts and professionals in the industry. We also have short-term programmes in collaboration with the Institution of Engineers (I) that are excellent to expand the knowledge of students by interacting with different field delegates. Annually, we also organize technical festivals and sports week to enhance the holistic development and engagement of students.

How do you tend to build an industry connect with this program?

We organize at least two industrial visits for students each semester. For each of these visits, students prepare a report and deliver presentations. These visits are meant for students to get an idea about the industrial environment. We have even collaborated with top-level institutes and industries that students can frequently visit and earn practical knowledge from. The faculty members and technicians of these organizations help students to understand the industrial working environment and the skills they would need to survive in it.

What are the benefits and career options after pursuing this course?

The range of benefits that students experience through our program will differ largely on the individual. We have put a lot of effort to prepare students for the GATE and IES examinations besides career preparation. Students are prepared to enter a growing field that offers bright career opportunities in various fields such as manufacturing, automotive, power plants, aviation, and even in research. They can comfortably choose to go for regular work life, higher education or attempt competitive examinations.

With new technologies being discovered every day, How is your department keeping up with the changing technological trends?

Our department conducts online training, online workshops and online guest lectures for the betterment of students as well as faculty. These sessions mainly cover the latest trends and changes in the field of mechanical engineering. We emphasize the importance of reading technical magazines and the latest research articles of SCI/SCOPUS, to our students, so they can stay with the latest updates in their field. Our students are also equipped for filing, and design of patents and DST projects.

The Mechanical Engineering department at Regional College has highly educated and experienced faculties and lab technicians. The entire department is equipped with a wide range of state-of-the-art laboratories filled with advanced equipment. We have also, as mentioned above, collaborated with good companies to provide placements and provide general guidance and support to our students.
