Dr.A.Srinivasan is the Principal, AVS Engineering College. He is a young, dynamic, and energetic person with rich experience in Teaching, Research, and Administration. He believes in propelling the growth of students by inducing the thinking of hard-work and discipline. Read here what he has to say in his interview.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“I have been closely committed to this profession right from schooling”

Immediately after my higher education, I started my career as an Assistant Professor in the organization where I completed the UG and PG degrees. I then realized the importance of Technical knowledge towards building a strong nation. Without Science and Technology, there is no supremacy. I feel proud of my services to the country by empowering students with technical education to create a realm.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“I believe in leading by example”

“Lead by example” is a common principle and the most result-oriented I had been practicing. As said by Mahatma Gandhiji, “Be the change you wish to see in the world” is my core value and perspective. Thousands of students and the number of faculties interacting with me should feel the transformation and the way forward. Being friendly, motivating, encouraging, Audacity, firmness, and determination are added features in my leadership style.

How does the curriculum of your College ensure the best practice of industry?

“We make sure students are abreast to current industry standards”

On the verge of completing their degree, the students should be industry ready to keep pace with the innovations and technological challenges. Since we are an affiliated college, we are following Anna University curriculum and syllabi. In addition to university credits, we offered specific certifications and skill development courses through our Quality development cell and Skill development wing, functioning with a team of experts from various leading industries. Professionals and experts from 15+ industries frequently interact with our students to reinforce them on the current best practices and recent developments.

“Providing quality placements, good results, developing the infrastructure and facilities, and addressing student’s grievances, etc. were some of the basic responsibilities, I feel.”

What do you think should be the College’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“To establish ourselves as a premier institute is a priority”

Eventually, every organization’s dream is to become a university of a good reputation. We have given priority to acquire Autonomous status, NAAC, and NBA certification and to improve the ranking by the Government agencies and other organizations. It would ultimately enhance the quality of Technical education offered by us.

What do you see as your College’s greatest strengths?

“Students are the greatest strength of any college”

Without our students the building and tags will not have any impact on education. Students are my first teacher, and I learned new skills and practices from each of our students. Apart from students, our magnanimous management, faculties, and vibrant campus are the greatest strengths of our organization.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for your college specifically?

“There are financial constraints which leads to underdeveloped educated youth”

Compared to other states in India, Tamil Nadu is in a good position in terms of Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education. But even then, still people from remote villages struggling financially to admit their ward for higher education. Lack of awareness on the government's scholarship funds, an increasing number of low-quality institutes, decreasing job opportunities are the biggest challenges in general and to our college.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Stay focused to grab opportunities through which you can provide jobs”

I would strongly suggest that current youth and students should come out of the comfort zone and explore entrepreneurship development opportunities. The world is an engaging platform to start and grow a business. Getting a degree for a job's sake is not a path for success. Instead of searching jobs, identify your inner strengths, brush up your skills. Do more research, acquire value-added certificates. Keep on updating your skills and competencies. All these things must be carried out during your study period. This self-development process would pave a path for your success to excel in life.

What are some plans that you are currently (or will be) designing for college students?

“We have been focusing on the key result areas and key performance indicators of every student”

Besides academic credits, we are planning to incorporate certifications offered by Swayam, UGC MOOC courses, Coursera, and other reliable online platforms. It proposed to appoint an industry expert as a mentor for each subject with strong connections with industries. We also planned to involve our notable alumni to address our students' specific needs related to their domain.
