In a collaborative effort, BITS Pilani PIEDS has launched a 'Womenpreneur for Bharat 1.0,' a startup program in partnership with WEP. The initiative is backed by the Aditya Birla Capital Foundation.
New Delhi: BITS Pilani's technology business incubator, Pilani Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Society (PIEDS), has introduced its startup initiative, 'Womenpreneur for Bharat 1.0,' in collaboration with the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP), incubated within NITI Aayog. The program is supported by the Aditya Birla Capital Foundation, the CSR arm of Aditya Birla Capital Limited.
BITS Pilani ‘Womenpreneurs for Bharat 1.0' aims to offer funding and incubation support to women entrepreneurs developing solutions in/from Tier 2/3/4 cities across the Northeast region, Rajasthan, Haryana, and J&K. The program seems both for-profit and non-profit women-led startups addressing UN-SDG areas and tackling business or societal challenges in these regions.
The program offers funding of up to INR 10 lakhs to eligible startups, coupled with comprehensive incubation support from PIEDS. This support includes one-on-one mentoring, assistance in accessing markets, and opportunities for future investment.
Vishakha Mulye, Director of Aditya Birla Capital Foundation and CEO of Aditya Birla Capital Limited expressed that their commitment is to foster equitable, inclusive, and sustainable social and economic growth in the country. Through 'Womenpreneurs for Bharat 1.0,' they aspire to create a platform nurturing the growth of women entrepreneurs who can make a significant impact on a large number of underserved Indians with innovative solutions."
Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Vice-Chancellor of BITS Pilani Faculty, emphasized that India's diversity demands solutions tailored to specific regions, and local entrepreneurs play a crucial role. He believed that women innovators, particularly from the Northeastern states, will lead the next wave of innovations to address their region's distinctive challenges.
Further, they are delighted to collaborate with the Women Entrepreneurship Platform and Aditya Birla Capital Foundation to showcase and scale some of these innovative solutions.
Discussing the initiative, Anna Roy, Mission Director at WEP, stated that this project represents a strategic effort to empower women entrepreneurship in the tech4good sector, holding substantial market and impact potential. It aligns with national objectives of gender equality, women-led development, and digital inclusion.
Furthermore, the Women entrepreneurs spearheading innovations in critical development areas through a tech-driven approach can have significant benefits for both business and society.
