BITS Pilani Alumnus Pratul Shroff Contributed USD 1 Million for Endowment Fund

New Delhi: Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has received a contribution of USD 1 Million for the university's endowment fund from Pratul Shroff, an alumnus of BITS Pilani's 1971 batch and Former Founder and CEO of Einfochips. Pratul Shroff plans to contribute 4.5 crore over the following five years for institute development. 

As per BITS Pilani, the institute will use the generous funds to finance the ten full fellowships to foster research at BITS Pilani. Additionally, it will be used for financing the ten full scholarships offered to academically outstanding students from economically challenged backgrounds.

Expressing his gratitude, Pratul said, “I’m thankful to BITS Pilani for the critical role it played in shaping my life. Its strong emphasis on physics and math was instrumental in deepening my interest in modern physics and quantum physics”.

“It’s my pleasure to contribute to the Alma mater. I believe it’s my duty to give back to the institution that gave me so much. In a broader context, I believe very strong and advanced institutions are a must for a bright future for our country”, he added.

BITS Pilani has also received contributions and funds from graduate students who attended the four batch reunions held at the Pilani campus between November and December 2023. Students have contributed over USD 1.4 million (INR 11.5 crores) and funds raised from alumni and CSR funding in the financial year 2022-23 were recorded at INR 32 Cr. 

Speaking on this occasion, Prof V Ramgopal Rao, Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani said: “I would like to use this opportunity to thank our Alumni sincerely for their significant contribution and to emphasize BITS Pilani is more than an institution—it is a beloved home for our alumni, committed to advancing education, research, and innovation”.
