Course Curriculum Overview:

I have chosen the course because it was my passion to serve for democracy being the fourth pillar of it. There were 4 faculty members in total and 40 students. The faculty members came from different universities. Our HOD Dr Mausumi Bhattacharya has completed her Post Doctoral fellowship from ICSSR. The exams were held twice a year based on the semester system. They were quite moderate.

Campus Life:

Life on campus was nice. The campus was surrounded by green trees and it was spread along 300 acres of land there were anti-ragging cells. There's a Central library from which the students can access books where there's a large stock of journals and books.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is student-friendly. The students have access to the Mac Lab and Media Lab, there is also a departmental library. Though the infrastructure is not great, the faculty members still try their best to help the students in any way possible, by arranging many workshops and seminars. The focus is generally on developing academic and research aptitudes in students alongside helping them develop technical skills with limited facilities.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

Fee Structure - First year - 26000, Second year- 19000. There is a provision for getting need-based financial assistance out of the student aid fund of the university subject to the consideration of the administrative body. But there are no campus jobs. And other state government and central government scholarships can be availed under certain conditions as mentioned on the government website of the scholarships.

Campus Life:

There are film club, book club and photography club in the department. The clubs hold weekly gatherings where they show films, discuss books and organize workshops. There is a smart room in the department where all the online meetings and screenings take place.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

The fee for the 1st year is 26000 and the 2nd year is 18000. This is for the general cast students. The fees are less for reserved students. The students can also get state and central govt scholarships and other kinds of scholarships as well.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

Studying journalism and mass communication at Visva Bharati is more costly than any other subject at this university. For GENERAL, OBC & EWS candidates the fee for the first year is 26240. For SC/ST & PWD candidates the fee is Rs 21240. For the 2nd year again the fee is 19,240 for GEN/OBC/EWS and for SC/ST/PWD the fee is Rs 14,240. So the total fee in two years is almost 41000 for GEN/OBC/EWS and almost Rs 36000 for minority candidates. However, the student can apply for Swami Vivekananda Merit cum scholarships which pay 24000 per year and Kanyahsree for girls. This help to cover the college fees. But you have to score a minimum of 53% to get the scholarships. We do not have a job campus facility. I have heard it used to happen 5-6 years ago.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I want to be a tv anchor or a news editor and that's why I have taken this course. We have 57 seats in the journalism and mass communication departments. For UR candidates 23 seats, for OBC 15 seats for SC 9 for ST 4, for EWS 6 seats are available. We have a total of 5 faculties in our department. So student-faculty ratio is around 11 students per faculty. All of our faculties are good. This is a practical field. They are taking the regular class and they are given a lot of practical tasks. So that we can enrich ourselves. We have audiovisual classes, fieldwork, group discussion, group debate and many more. PG is consist of 4 semesters and we have to pass all of them. Exams are moderate to pass. We have practical exams too.
